9.3 Firmware upgrade
The firmware for the PSTX Softstarter is divided into two
parts with separate firmware for both the HMI module and
the Control Board (CB). Both firmwares are supplied in
the same zip-package. To upgrade the PSTX Softstarter
with new firmwares, the software SoftstarterCare™
– Service Engineer Tool is required and the firmware
package, both can be downloaded from the ABB
library. Use your ABB login or contact your ABB Service
representative.
The Service Engineer Tool can access all HMI parameters,
the event log, status information, trouble shooting, and
upgrade the PSTX Softstarter firmware from a PC.
The procedure for upgrading the PSTX Softstarter
firmware differ depending on the CB firmware currently
installed in the PSTX Softstarter.
The current firmware versions is found using the HMI.

information.
If the HMI cannot be used, then connect the PSTX
Softstarter to a PC with SoftstarterCare and find the
firmware version through Menu

9.3.1 Upgrade from a CB firmware
version higher than 1.22.0
9.3.1.1 Preparation
1. Make sure a standard USB cable - “Mini-USB to
USB” is available.
2. Download and install the x86 version (32-bits) of
the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual
Studio 2015 package.

Download the Visual C++ Redistributable
package (vc_redist.x86.exe) from microsoft.com.
3. Unzip and Install SoftstarterCare onto the PC.
4. Unzip the PSTX firmware package.
