Overview

This document is a user guide for an Acer LCD Monitor, providing information on safety, comfort, setup, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Acer LCD Monitor is designed for video and visual display of information from electronic devices. It supports various display resolutions and timing modes, making it compatible with a wide range of computer systems. The monitor is equipped with features to enhance user comfort and safety, including power management, adjustable screen position, and controls for picture quality and audio settings. It also supports DDC (Display Data Channel) for plug-and-play functionality, allowing the monitor to automatically communicate its capabilities to the host system.

Usage Features

Unpacking and Installation: The monitor comes with an LCD monitor unit, a quick start guide, an AC power cord, and optional audio, HDMI1.4, and VGA cables. Installation involves connecting the signal cable (VGA or HDMI1.4) from the monitor to the computer's graphics card, optionally connecting an audio cable, inserting the monitor's power cable, and plugging the power cords into an electrical outlet.

Screen Position Adjustment: The monitor allows for tilt adjustment to optimize the viewing position. The tilt range is from -5° to 15°, with 15 degrees of recline offered at the highest point for elevation.

Power Saving: The monitor features a power-saving mode, indicated by an amber power LED. It enters this mode when a control signal from the display controller is detected. The recovery time from an active OFF state back to an ON state is approximately 3 seconds.

Display Data Channel (DDC): The monitor supports the DDC2B standard, enabling plug-and-play functionality. This protocol allows the monitor to automatically inform the host system about its capabilities, such as supported resolutions and timing, simplifying installation.

User Controls: The monitor has a power button and several function keys, often controlled by a single toggle button (joystick) on the backside of the display bezel.

  • Power Button: Turns the monitor on/off. A blue light indicates power on, while amber indicates standby/power saving mode.
  • Function Keys: These keys allow access to the main menu and various hotkey functions.
    • Hotkey 1 (Default: Standard Mode): Provides access to scenario modes (sRGB, Reading, Darkroom, User, Standard, ECO, Graphics, Movie). It also allows resetting custom color settings to factory defaults.
    • Hotkey 2 (Default: Brightness): Opens the Brightness control for adjusting screen brightness from 0 to 100.
    • Hotkey 3 (Input Select): Allows selection of input sources (VGA IN, HDMI1.4, or Auto Source).
    • Main Menu Key: Opens the OSD (On-Screen Display) for comprehensive adjustments.

OSD Menu Functions: The OSD menu is navigated using the joystick.

  • Picture Settings: Adjusts Brightness, Contrast, Black Boost, Blue Light, ACM (Adaptive Contrast Management), Super Sharpness, Auto Config, H. Position, V. Position, Focus, and Clock.
    • Brightness: Controls the overall luminance of the display.
    • Contrast: Adjusts the difference between light and dark areas.
    • Black Boost: Enhances shadows by increasing brightness without affecting lighter shades.
    • Blue Light: Filters out blue light to protect eyes, with adjustable levels (80%, 70%, 60%, 50%). The 50% setting is recommended for optimal protection and meets TÜV Rheinland's "Low Blue Light Content" standard.
    • ACM: Dynamically adjusts contrast based on the current screen content.
    • Super Sharpness: Enhances image clarity by boosting pixel density.
  • Color Settings: Adjusts Gamma, Color Temperature (Cool, Normal, Warm, Bluelight, User), Modes (scenario modes), sRGB, Grayscale Mode, 6-axis Hue, and 6-axis Saturate.
    • Gamma: Adjusts the luminance tone, with a default value of 2.2.
    • Color Temperature: Allows selection of predefined color temperature settings or a custom user setting.
    • sRGB: Enables or disables sRGB mode for better color matching with peripheral devices.
    • 6-axis Hue/Saturate: Provides fine-tuning of red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan hues and saturation.
  • Audio Settings: Adjusts Volume and Mute on/off.
  • Performance Settings: Includes Over Drive (Off, Normal, Extreme), FreeSync (on/off), VRB (on/off), and Refresh Rate Num (displays current refresh rate).
    • FreeSync (HDMI): Allows a FreeSync-supported graphics source to dynamically adjust the display refresh rate for smooth, stutter-free, and low-latency updates.
  • OSD Settings: Configures Language, OSD Timeout, Transparency (for gaming mode), and OSD Lock (on/off).
    • OSD Lock: Prevents accidental changes to settings. When locked, the LED status changes to amber, and a message "OSD Locked" appears. Unlocking involves pressing the "Navi Key" for more than 3 seconds.
  • System Settings: Manages Input source (VGA IN, HDMI1.4), Auto Source (on/off), Wide Mode (Aspect, Full), Hot Key Assignment (for shortcut keys 1 and 2), DDC/CI (on/off), HDMI Black Level, and Quick Start Mode (on/off).
    • Auto Source: Automatically searches for signal sources.
    • DDC/CI: Allows monitor settings to be controlled via software on the PC.
    • Quick Start Mode: Speeds up boot time when enabled.
  • Save Setting to... (User mode only): Allows users to save up to three custom-defined profiles for game mode, which can be recalled later.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning Your Monitor:

  • Always unplug the monitor before cleaning.
  • Use a soft cloth to wipe the screen and cabinet front and sides.

    • The product has been dropped or the case has been damaged.
    • The product exhibits a distinct change in performance.
    • The product does not operate normally after following operating instructions.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like "No picture visible," suggesting remedies such as adjusting brightness/contrast, checking power connections, verifying video signal cables, and ensuring the computer is not in power-saving mode. It also notes that if OSD Lock is on, the LED status will be amber.
