Overview

The ACTi Outdoor Mini Bullet is a versatile hardware device designed for surveillance applications, offering robust features for both indoor and outdoor environments. This manual covers models Z39, Z310, and Z315, providing comprehensive guidance on installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Outdoor Mini Bullet camera is primarily used for video surveillance, capturing high-quality images and providing live views. It supports various resolutions, including 4MP, 8MP, and 5MP, depending on the specific model (Z39, Z310, Z315 respectively). Each model features Day/Night functionality, Adaptive IR for enhanced night vision, Superior WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) for clear images in challenging lighting conditions, SLLS (Superior Low Light Sensitivity) for performance in dimly lit environments, and a fixed lens.

The camera is equipped with an Ethernet port for network connectivity, allowing it to be integrated into existing network infrastructures. It can be powered either through Power over Ethernet (PoE) or via an external DC 12V power adapter, offering flexibility in deployment. A built-in microphone enables audio input, adding an auditory dimension to surveillance. For local storage, the camera includes a memory card slot, supporting the insertion of a memory card for recording purposes.

Usage Features

The installation process for the Outdoor Mini Bullet is designed to be straightforward, whether mounted on a flat surface or a pole. For surface mounting, the camera can be directly attached to walls or ceilings. An optional junction box is available for cable management, which can be purchased separately. For pole mounting, a specific pole mount accessory set is required.

Before installation, users are advised to prepare necessary accessories. If local recording is desired, a memory card should be inserted into the camera's slot after opening the bottom cover. It's crucial to avoid hot-plugging the memory card once the camera is powered on to prevent damage.

Cable routing can be done either through a hole in the mounting surface or along the surface, utilizing a gap in the camera bracket. For outdoor installations or environments with drastic environmental changes, waterproofing the cable connections is essential. The bundled cable gland is used to protect the Ethernet connection, and waterproof tape is recommended for other cable connections, especially if a power adapter is used. ACTi explicitly states that it will not be responsible for camera damage caused by water entering unprotected cable connections.

Connecting the camera to the network involves attaching the Ethernet cable to a switch or injector, which then connects to a network or PC and a power source. The camera automatically assigns itself a default IP address (192.168.0.100) if no DHCP server is detected. To access the camera, the PC's IP address must be configured to match the camera's network segment. ACTi provides an "IP Utility" software tool for discovering cameras on the network, listing valuable information like IP and MAC addresses, serial numbers, and firmware versions, and facilitating quick configuration of multiple devices. This utility allows users to easily assign unique IP addresses to multiple cameras, preventing conflicts when more than one camera is used in the same local area network without a DHCP server.

Once connected and configured, the camera can be accessed via a web browser, preferably Microsoft Internet Explorer, by typing its IP address into the address bar. The default HTTP port is 80, so it can be omitted from the address. Upon successful connection, the Web Configurator interface appears, prompting the user to set up a root account name and password before logging in. The viewing angle and orientation of the camera can be adjusted post-installation by loosening and fastening specific screws.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Outdoor Mini Bullet. Users are advised to read all safety and operating instructions and heed all warnings to prevent damage to the system or injury. Servicing should only be performed by qualified service personnel, as opening or removing covers can expose users to dangerous voltages.

During transportation, special care should be taken to protect the transparent dome cover from friction, scratches, and stains. A protective film is applied to the cover, which should only be removed after mounting is complete and before powering on the device. Unauthorized repair or maintenance is discouraged, as ACTi will not assume responsibility for problems arising from such actions.

For cleaning the front glass surface, dust should be removed gently using an oil-free brush or a rubber dust blowing ball. For grease or dust stains, the glass surface should be cleaned gently from the center outward using anti-static gloves or an oil-free cloth. If stains persist, a detergent-dipped anti-static glove or cloth can be used. Organic solvents like benzene and alcohol should not be used to clean the transparent dome cover.

Safety checks should be performed by a service technician after any service or repairs to ensure the video product is in proper operating condition. When dealing with laser products, users should never look at the transmit laser while power is on, nor directly at fiber ports or cable ends when powered on. The use of controls or adjustments other than those specified in the manual may result in hazardous laser emissions.

The manual also emphasizes the importance of using a power adapter or PoE device that meets requirements to avoid damaging the device. The length of the power cable between the adapter and camera should not be excessively long to prevent voltage drops that could cause abnormal camera operation. If lengthening is necessary, it should be done between the power adapter and the mains. Cables should not be overbent during installation to prevent poor contact, and external interfaces should use existing connection terminals with properly fastened cable terminals, ensuring cables are not tense to avoid poor port contact or loosening from shock or shake.
