Do you have a question about the AcuRite 02022WB and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the AcuRite Weather Station models 02027 and 02022WB, a device designed to provide accurate weather information and timekeeping.

Function Description

The AcuRite Weather Station is a comprehensive system that measures and displays outdoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure, alongside indoor temperature and humidity. It features a self-calibrating forecasting system that provides a personalized weather forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours based on data collected from the outdoor sensor. The display unit also shows the current time, date, moon phase, and records of high and low temperatures and humidity. The device includes an Intelli-Time® clock that automatically updates for Daylight Saving Time.

Important Technical Specifications

Temperature Range:

  • Outdoor: -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to 70°C)
  • Indoor: 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C)

Humidity Range:

  • 1% - 99% RH (relative humidity)

Wireless Range:

  • 330 ft / 100 m depending on home construction materials

Operating Frequency:

  • 433 MHz

Power:

  • Display: 5V power adapter, 3 x AA alkaline batteries (optional)
  • Sensor: 2 x AA alkaline or lithium batteries

Data Reporting:

  • Outdoor Data: 16 second updates
  • Indoor Data: 60 second updates

The display unit can be powered by a 5V power adapter, with 3 AA alkaline batteries serving as a backup. The outdoor sensor requires 2 AA alkaline or lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are recommended for temperatures below -4°F / -20°C.

Usage Features

Setup and Synchronization: The device requires a simple setup process. Users need to set the A-B-C switch in both the display unit and the outdoor sensor to the same letter (A, B, or C) to ensure proper synchronization. Batteries should be installed in both units, and the power adapter connected to the display unit. The Intelli-Time® clock automatically sets the time and date.

Display Unit Features: The display unit provides a wealth of information at a glance:

  • Current Outdoor Temperature & Humidity: Displays current readings, along with daily high and low records.
  • Current Indoor Temperature & Humidity: Shows current readings, along with daily high and low records.
  • Barometric Pressure: Indicates current pressure and trends (falling, steady, or rising).
  • Moon Phase: Tracks simple lunar phases.
  • Learning Mode Icon: Appears during the self-calibration period of 14 days.
  • Weather Forecast: Icons predict weather conditions for the next 12-24 hours (Storm Developing, Snow Likely, Light Rain Likely, Cloudy, Partly Cloudy, Sunny).
  • Date: Displays the current date.
  • 12 to 24 Hour Weather Forecast: Self-calibrating forecast.
  • Display Low Battery Indicator: Alerts when batteries need replacement.
  • Intelli-Time® Clock: Automatically updates for Daylight Saving Time.
  • Momentary Backlight Button: Activates the backlight for 10 seconds.
  • Outdoor Sensor Signal Strength: Indicates the strength of the wireless signal from the outdoor sensor.

Display Backlight Settings: The display offers three brightness settings: High (100%), Medium (60%), and Low (30%). When using battery power alone, the backlight is available momentarily for 10 seconds by pressing the "BACKLIGHT" button. With the power adapter, the backlight remains on at 100% brightness, with options to dim to 60% or 30% brightness. An "AUTO DIM" mode automatically adjusts brightness based on the time of day and year.

Placement for Maximum Accuracy:

  • Display Unit: Should be placed in a dry area, away from dirt and dust. It can be used upright on a tabletop or wall-mounted.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Must be placed outdoors to observe conditions accurately. It should be located in an area protected from direct weather elements, hung using the integrated hang holes or hanger, or by using string (not included) to hang it from a suitable location, like a well-covered tree branch. The best location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground with permanent shade and plenty of fresh air to circulate around the sensor.
  • Wireless Communication: To ensure accurate temperature measurement, place units out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources or vents. Display and outdoor sensor must be within 330 ft (100 m) of each other. To maximize wireless range, place units away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that may limit wireless communication. To prevent wireless interference, place both units at least 3 ft (.9 m) away from electronic devices (TV, computer, microwave, radio, etc.).

Learning Mode: The self-calibrating forecasting feature uses a unique algorithm to analyze changes in pressure over a time period (called Learning Mode) to determine your altitude. After 14 days, the Learning Mode icon disappears from the display screen, and the forecast becomes more accurate.

Barometric Pressure Calibration: The display unit allows for manual calibration of barometric pressure to improve accuracy. This can be done by pressing and holding the "gear" and "up arrow" buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds, then adjusting the value.

Maintenance Features

Display Unit Care: Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners or abrasives. Keep away from dust, dirt, and moisture. Clean ventilation ports regularly with a gentle puff of air.

Outdoor Sensor Care: Clean with a soft damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners or abrasives.

Battery Replacement:

  • Display Unit: Requires 3 x AA alkaline batteries.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Requires 2 x AA alkaline or lithium batteries.
  • Intelli-Time® Battery: The Intelli-Time® clock is powered by a pre-installed coin-cell battery (CR2032 3V) that stores the time and date settings. This battery has a shelf life of several years and can be replaced by locating the coin cell battery compartment door on the back of the display unit, inside the battery compartment.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as:

  • No outdoor sensor reception (check wireless signal, distance, interference, batteries).
  • Display screen not working (check batteries, reset button).
  • Outdoor temperature is flashing or showing dashes (bring sensor indoors, check A-B-C switch, reinstall battery, check unit placement).
  • Inaccurate forecast (Learning Mode, allow unit to run continuously for 33 days, check sensor placement).
  • Inaccurate temperature or humidity (check unit placement, ensure units are positioned away from moisture sources).

Product Registration and Warranty: AcuRite offers a 1-year warranty on its products. Customers are encouraged to register their product online to receive warranty protection and access customer support. The manual provides contact information for customer support, including a phone number and email address.
