Overview

This document describes the ALEKO® LM178 Waterproof Dual-relay Access Control device, a robust and versatile standalone access controller designed for both indoor and outdoor use in harsh environments.

Function Description

The LM178 is a two-relay multifunction standalone access controller. It supports up to 1200 users, offering three authentication options: Card, PIN, or Card + PIN. The device features a built-in 125KHz EM frequency card reader and supports PIN lengths of 4-8 digits. Both onboard relays can operate in either Pulse Mode, suitable for access control, or Toggle Mode, ideal for arming/disarming alarms, switching lights, or controlling machines.

The device is housed in a strong, sturdy, and vandal-proof zinc alloy electroplated case, with fully potted electronics ensuring it is waterproof and conforms to the IP68 standard. It includes a built-in Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) for anti-tamper functionality, a buzzer, and red, yellow, and green LEDs to display its working status. The LM178 also supports doorbell connections (Zone 2) and offers two-relay output for door opening, door status detection, and door opening via a button.

It is an ideal choice for door access in various settings, from small shops and domestic households to commercial and industrial applications such as factories, warehouses, laboratories, banks, and prisons.

Usage Features

User Management:

  • Master Code: A 6-digit master code (default: 888888) is used to enter programming mode.
  • Working Modes: Configurable for Card only, PIN only, or Card + PIN entry for each zone.
  • Adding Users:
    • PIN Users: Add 4-8 digit PINs (0000-99999999, excluding 1234) with user IDs from 1-1100 for Zone 1 and 1101-1200 for Zone 2. Users can be added continuously.
    • Card Users (Method 1 - Auto-generated ID): Easily enroll cards with automatically generated sequential ID numbers (starting from 1).
    • Card Users (Method 2 - User ID Allocation): Assign a specific user ID (1-1100) to a card.
    • Block Enrollment (Series Cards): Enroll up to 1100 consecutive cards within 1 minute for Zone 1, using an 8-digit card number and quantity.
    • Card and PIN Users: Add a card, then allocate a PIN to it.
  • Deleting Users:
    • Delete PIN users by user ID.
    • Delete card users by presenting the card or by user ID.
    • Delete card users by inputting the 8-digit card number.
    • Delete All Users: A dangerous option to delete all users from Zone 1 or Zone 2.
  • Changing PINs: PINs for existing users can be changed outside of programming mode using the old PIN and new PIN, or by user ID.

Relay Operation:

  • Pulse Mode (Factory Default): A valid card/PIN input activates the relay for a pre-set pulse time (1-99 seconds; default 5 seconds).
  • Toggle Mode: A valid card/PIN input changes the relay state (on/off), which remains until another valid input.
  • Door Unlock: Users can unlock the door (or change relay state) by entering their PIN, presenting their card, or both.

Door Detection and Alarm Features:

  • Door Open Detection (DOTL):
    • Door Open Too Long Warning: If the door remains open for more than 1 minute after normal opening, the internal buzzer beeps for 1 minute before automatically switching off.
    • Door Forced Open Warning: If the door is forced open, or remains open for 120 seconds after the electromechanical lock is not properly closed, the buzzer and alarm output activate.
    • Configuration: Can be enabled for Zone 1 or Zone 2, or disabled (factory default).
  • Alarm Output Time: Adjustable from 1-3 minutes (default 1 minute).
  • Keypad Lockout & Alarm Output: After 10 invalid cards or incorrect PINs within 10 minutes, the keypad can either lockout for 10 minutes or trigger the alarm.
    • Normal Status: No keypad lockout or alarm (factory default).
    • Keypad Lockout: Keypad locks out.
    • Alarm Output: Alarm activates.
  • Alarm Removal: Alarms (forced open or door open too long) can be removed by presenting a valid card or entering the master code.

Acoustic Signal and Doorbell Settings:

  • Keypad Tone: Can be enabled (device gives voice feedback on key press) or disabled (silent operation).
  • Doorbell Function (Zone 2): Zone 2 can be configured to operate a doorbell instead of a second door. Wiring connects the doorbell to NO2 and COM2. Pressing '#' on the keypad sends a continuous switching signal to the doorbell until '#' is released.

Maintenance Features

  • Reset to Factory Default: Power off, press '*', power on, and release after three beeps (two short, one long). This resets settings but retains user information.
  • Anti-Tamper Alarm: The built-in LDR detects if the keypad is removed from its cover, triggering a tamper alarm.
  • Two-Year Warranty: The device comes with a two-year warranty.
  • Installation: The manual provides clear instructions for installation, including removing the back cover, drilling holes, fixing the back cover, threading cables, waterproofing screw holes with rubber bungs, and attaching the keypad.
  • Wiring Diagrams: Detailed wiring diagrams are provided for various common access control systems (AS & GateGuard Series, AC1500, AR1550, AC2400, AR2450, AC5700, AR5750, AC2700, AR2750, AR900, AC1300, AR1350, AC2200, AR2250).
