SPC 20 OPERATOR’S MANUAL
OPERATION C-15
STANDARD PLATFORM HEAD
Cutting Bar Height
Set cutting bar so that the sickle cuts below all the seed, but does not necessarily cut all the plant.
When the header height is lowered use extra caution to avoid rocks and other obstructions. Gauge
wheels are used to set the minimum ground clearance.
1. Loosen 2 bolts on each gauge wheel bracket.
2. Raise or lower sickle to approximately desired height above the plant base.
3. Tighten down bolts on both gauge wheels.
4. Let header down using the header lift lever, this will transfer the weight of the head to the gauge
wheels and lower the head 1/2” - 1”, depending on field conditions.
5. Be sure sickle is not too close to the ground and the gauge wheels have not slipped in the
bracket.
Reel Speed
Adjust reel speed so that it runs slightly faster than the ground speed. As the plant is cut off the reel
should lay the plant, head first, onto the conveyor belt. When reel speed is set too fast reel will
impact the plant knocking off seed. Setting reel speed too slow will cause the plant to be pushed
over in front of the head, which may cause plant material to wrap around reel. Adjust reel speed
using header speed control knob on console.
Reel Height
Reel bar should touch the crop just below the head of the plant. When crop is down adjust reel
height so that the tines continue to hold plant, while cutting bar cuts it.
