5. Defective starter or starter solenoid

There are three scenarios that will cause the engine to stop running:
1. Shut down solenoid (electrical problem)
2. Overheating
3. Lack of fuel
Please answer the following questions and proceed to the section indicated.
Did the engine stop suddenly or gradually loose power and come to a stop?
If the engine stopped suddenly, proceed to Section 1.
If the engine stopped gradually, proceed to Section 3.
Is the engine equipped with a thermal shutdown circuit?
If it is equipped, proceed to Section 2.
If not equipped, proceed to Section 1.
SCENARIO #1 Shutdown Solenoid
All Deutz 1011 Series engines have an electrically
operated shut down solenoid located on the front
right corner of the engine. (Engine viewed from the
flywheel end) It is bolted to the engine directly
behind the axial fan drive belt idler pulley (See
FIGURE E-1). This solenoid carries a 3-year
warranty through Deutz from the date that the engine
was put into service. Please check your records
before contacting an Authorized Deutz Repair
Center or ALMACO.
