Note: The reason that the international characters don’t
directly transfer into these applications is that these applications
don’t support the Microsoft international character set. Fortu-
nately, by copying and pasting through the clipboard, the clip-
board performs the appropriate translations.
All non-international characters transfer correctly to all
Windows and DOS applications.
■ PRINTING FROM YOUR ALPHASMART
The AlphaSmart 2000 can print directly to a large number of
printers by using a specially designed serial or parallel printer
cable. Printers currently supported by the AlphaSmart 2000 are:
• Apple ImageWriters
• Hewlett-Packard DeskJets and DeskWriters
• Apple StyleWriter I, II, and 1200
• Parallel printers (requires AlphaSmart Parallel
Printer Cable)
To print from an AlphaSmart 2000 to a printer:
1. Press Option-Print to access the printer setup menu. Use
the arrow keys to select either ImageWriter, HP DeskJet or
Writer, Stylewriter, or Parallel. Press Return to leave the
menu.
2. Connect the special AlphaSmart-to-Printer cable from the
AlphaSmart PC port to the printer serial or parallel port.
This cable is specially made and is not available from com-
puter stores (it has some electronic components built
directly into the cable).
3. Make sure the printer is turned on and, for the ImageWriter
II, make sure the Select LED is green (printer is selected to
print).
4. Press
x-P or Print on the AlphaSmart to print the current
file. The printer should start to print.
The AlphaSmart will remember your selected printer, so you
only have to do Step 1 once, or whenever you change printers.

The following characters are not supported: Â, Î, Ï, Ì, Í
