What to do if food is not broiling properly in my Amana Ranges or smokes excessively?

  If food is not broiling properly or smokes excessively, consider the following: * Check oven rack positions. The food may be too close to the element. * Ensure the broil element was preheated. * Verify aluminum foil was correctly used. * Make sure the oven door was not closed during broiling. * Trim excess fat from meat before broiling. * Avoid using a soiled broiler pan. * Low voltage in the house can also cause this.

  If your oven will not self-clean, check to make sure the cycle is not set for a delayed start and that the door is closed. Also, verify the control is not in Sabbath Mode, and ensure the oven temperature is not over 400°F.

  If you see fault codes, and 'BAKE' or 'LOCK' appear in the display, press the Cancel pad. If 'BAKE' or 'LOCK' continue to flash, disconnect power to the appliance, wait a few minutes, and then reconnect power. If the flashing still continues, disconnect power and call an authorized servicer. If the oven is heavily soiled, excessive flareups may result in a fault code during cleaning.

  A strong odor or light smoke when the oven is first turned on is normal for a new range and should disappear after a few uses. You can speed up the process by initiating a clean cycle to burn off the odors more quickly. Turning on a ventilation fan can also help remove the smoke and/or odor. Excessive food soils on the oven bottom can also cause this.

  If your baking results are not as expected, first ensure that the oven vent has not been blocked and that the range is level. Keep in mind that temperatures often vary between a new oven and an old one.
