the Control Center software application. Common configuration tasks include:
Adding and removing displays
Rotating displays
Setting the main (primary) display
Duplicating and extending desktops
Arranging desktops
For more information, see Chapter 5 Using the Control Center Software (p. 19).
3.3.1 Multiple Displays
AMD FirePro V4900 graphics cards with two DisplayPort connections and one dual-
link DVI connection provide display functionality for up to three displays in
Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, or Linux®. The following are the maximum possible
configurations (using adapters where necessary):
2 × DisplayPort
3 × dual-link DVI
3 × VGA
3 × single-link DVI
2 × HDMI
Note: Monitors connected via passive adapters must all have the same resolution and
refresh rate.
Adapters not included with your AMD FirePro V4900 can be purchased directly from
AMD’s Web site or through your local AMD resellers.
Different types of displays can be combined within the following parameters:
Your AMD FirePro V4900 has two clocks and either two DisplayPort connections
and one dual-link DVI connection, or two dual-link DVI connections.
Two active displays (DisplayPort, active single-link DVI, dual-link DVI, and VGA)
can share a clock, while passive displays (passive single-link DVI and HDMI)
require a separate clock per device.
Thus, if the baseplate of your graphics cards has three connections, the true limit on
multiple displays is three active displays, two active and one passive display, or two
passive displays. If the baseplate has only two connections, the true limit is two,
regardless of display type.
The following table shows some examples of multiple display configurations for the
AMD FirePro V4900 graphics card with three connections; (A) indicates an active
adapter is used and (P) indicates a passive adapter is used. Display abbreviations are
DP = DisplayPort, sDVI = single-link DVI, and dDVI = dual-link DVI.
