Do you have a question about the Anest Iwata WS400 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ANEST IWATA WS-400 Series2 [BASE & CLEAR] and LS-400 Series2 GRAVITY SPRAY GUNS are advanced tools designed for car refinishing, utilizing innovative spray painting technologies for atomization and application of various paint types with compressed air. These premium spray guns are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of the automotive sector. The design is attributed to Pininfarina, emphasizing both aesthetics and functionality.

Function Description:

These gravity spray guns are designed to atomize and apply paints using compressed air. The WS-400 Series2 is suitable for both base and clear coats, while the LS-400 Series2 is specifically designed for HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) applications. The guns feature adjustable pattern width, fluid output, and air pressure, allowing for precise control over the painting process. The digital pressure gauge (DPG-1) provides real-time pressure readings, enhancing accuracy and consistency.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Max. working pressure: 10.0 bar (145 PSI)
  • WS-400 Compliant max. Pressure: 2.0 bar (29 PSI)
  • LS-400 HVLP max. Pressure: 1.8 bar (26 PSI)
  • Weight (without cup): 465 g (1.03 lbs)
  • Noise level (LAeqT)*: 83.5 dB(A) at max. pressure (measured 1m backwards from gun, 1.6m height)
  • Max. Temperature range: Atmosphere 5 ~ 40 °C / Air-Fluid 5 ~ 43 °C
  • Air Connection: G1/4" M
  • Fluid Connection: G1/4" F
  • Digital Pressure Gauge Specifications:
    • Lithium Cell: SONY or MURATA CR1632
    • Nominal Voltage: 3 Volt
    • Rated Capacity: 140 mAh

The spray guns comply with the 2014/34/EU Directive for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, marked with UKCA CE II 2 G Ex h IIB T6 Gb X +5°C ≤ Ta ≤ + 40°C. The DPG-1 digital pressure gauge is also compliant, marked with UKCA CE 2809 Ex II 2 G Ex ib IIB T4 Gb +5°C ≤ Ta ≤ + 40°C.

Usage Features:

  • Setup: Before first use, fluid passages must be cleaned to remove rust preventive oil. The gravity cup and air hose should be firmly connected.
  • Adjustments:
    • WS-400: Suggested air pressure is 2.0 bar (29 PSI) or less.
    • LS-400: To achieve the recommended 0.7 bar (10 PSI) air pressure inside the air cap, first fully open the pattern adjustment, then set the air pressure at the inlet port to 1.8 bar (26 PSI) while pulling the trigger.
    • Digital Pressure Gauge (DPG-1): Provides precise pressure readings for optimal paint application.
  • Painting Technique: Recommended paint viscosity varies (14 to 25 sec. / Ford cup#4). Spray distance should be 100-250 mm (3.9-9.8 in), holding the gun perpendicular to the workpiece and moving in straight, horizontal lines to avoid uneven painting.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Strictly prohibit sparks and open flames due to flammable paints.
    • Ensure the spray gun is securely grounded with a conductive air hose (electrical resistance <1MΩ) to prevent static electric sparking.
    • Never use halogenated hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., methyl chloride, dichloromethane) as they can cause damage to the gun body.
    • Always wear protective gear (safety glasses, mask, gloves) and operate in a well-ventilated spray booth.
    • Never exceed maximum operating pressure or temperature.
    • Release air and fluid pressure before cleaning, disassembling, or servicing.
    • Do not point the spray gun towards people or animals.
    • The fluid needle tip is sharp; avoid touching it during maintenance.
    • Do not spray foods, chemicals, corrosive, or abrasive products.
    • Always disassemble the DPG-1 module from the spray gun handle before cleaning or servicing.
    • Never alter the spray gun or DPG-1 module.

Maintenance Features:

  • Checking the Product: Upon receipt, verify that the spray gun is undamaged and all contents (Allen wrench, brush, universal spanner, twisted brush, instruction manual, and for digital versions: screwdriver, coin battery, trigger locking clip & pin cap) are included.
  • Disassembly and Reassembly:
    • Always clean fluid passages thoroughly before disassembly.
    • Fluid nozzle set (2) and air cap set (1) can be disassembled using the provided spanner (Hex. 19 mm).
    • Fluid needle (2-1) should only be disassembled when strictly necessary.
    • Needle packing set (3) adjustment must be done with the fluid needle set inserted.
    • Air valve set (8) and air valve shaft (14) can be disassembled.
    • Pattern adjustment set (5) and air adjustment set (15) can be disassembled by unscrewing the countersunk head screw (6) and turning the hexagonal knobs.
    • Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly; ensure correct alignment of components, especially the fluid nozzle slits (90° to the gun body) and proper installation of the needle spring (plastic tip opposite the fluid needle tip).
  • DPG-1 Battery Replacement: Use only the supplied screwdriver to unscrew the two screws from the battery cover. Replace the battery with a SONY or MURATA CR1632 lithium cell (3V, 140mAh). Do not disassemble any other parts of the DPG-1 module.
  • Manual Cleaning Procedure:
    • Release all air and fluid pressure.
    • Drain remaining paint and clean fluid passages with compatible cleaner.
    • Unscrew the air cap (1) by 2 turns for back flush, then remove and clean it thoroughly with a soft cleaning needle.
    • Lubricate tightening seats and friction zones with compatible lubricant after cleaning.
    • Ensure cleaner pH is between 6.0 and 8.0.
    • Do not use pickling products, paint strippers, descalers, acid-content chemicals, recycled exhaust chemical products, or abrasive materials on the gun body.
    • Do not immerse the gun in cleaning or degreasing chemicals.
    • Dry with compressed air after cleaning.
  • Automatic Washing Procedure:
    • Remove the DPG-1 module and fit the protective pin cap or trigger locking clip before placing the gun in an automatic washer.
    • Follow the washer's instruction manual.
    • Ensure air is released from air passages.
    • Use only suitable cleaner designed for the spray gun washer.
    • Dry the equipment immediately after cleaning.
    • Ground the gun washer equipment. Regularly replace cleaner to maintain performance, especially with water-based coatings.
  • Troubleshooting: Provides a guide for common issues like "Gun does not spray," "Intermittent spray pattern," "Defective spray pattern," "Leaking," "Air leaks from air cap," and "Digital pressure gauge does not work," along with corresponding remedies.
  • Inspection and Replacement Standard: Specifies parts to inspect (air cap holes, fluid nozzle, packing, O-rings, seat sections) and when to replace them (if crushed, deformed, worn out, or leaking persists after cleaning).
