CHECKING AND TOPPING UP
The coolant level should be checked and
topped up only while the engine is cold.
♦ Shut off the engine and wait for it to cool.
NOTE Place the vehicle on a flat, hard sur-
face.
♦ Open the storage compartment, see
page 40 (GLOVE COMPARTMENT).
♦ Make sure that the level of fluid in the
expansion tank (1), is between the ref-
erence marks “MIN” and “MAX”.
MIN = minimum level.
MAX = maximum level.

WARNING
If not:
♦ Removing the front hood, see page 70
(REMOVING THE FRONT HOOD).
♦ Loosen the filler cap (2) (by turning it
counter-clockwise), without removing it.
♦ Wait a few seconds to allow any pres-
sure to bleed off.
NOTE The plug (2) is connected to a
breather tube (3). Do not force or disconnect
the breather tube (3).
♦ Unscrew and remove the cap (2).
Coolant is harmful if swallowed; contact
with skin or eyes may cause irritation.
Do not insert your finger or any foreign
objects to check for coolant.
Do not exceed the “MAX” level when top-
ping u, to keep fluid from leaking out
while the engine is running.
♦ Top up with coolant, see page 90 (LU-
BRICANT CHART), until the fluid ap-
proximately reaches the “MAX” level.
♦ Replace the filler cap (2).
If coolant is used up too quickly and the
expansion tank becomes empty, check
for leaks in the circuit. Contact an autho-
rized aprilia Dealer for repairs.
♦ Replace the front hood, see page 70
(REMOVING THE FRONT HOOD).
