Appendix 7 – Saving Screen Shots
Pictures of the scan can be very useful for documentation. The first step is to copy the
screen image to the clipboard by pressing the ALT key and then the Print Screen key.
This will transfer the active window to the clipboard. If you want to copy the entire
screen, just press the Print Screen key.
The screen image can now be inserted into a program, such as Microsoft Word,
Paintshop or Paint Shop Pro by pressing Control-V.
The Windows operating system also includes a standard accessory program called
“Paint” that’s available on all computers.
To run “Paint”, click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen.
Then click “Programs”
Scroll to find “Accessories”
Click “Paint”
Click Control-V to insert the screen shot into the working page.
Then save the file as a .gif or .jpg. (.gif is preferable since the quality of the line drawing
is better than .jpg)
Now your screen shot can be inserted into a document file or attached to an email.
