  If the ARTEX Transmitter will not turn off and the battery is too low, remove the battery pack to disable the ELT and replace the battery pack. If the ELT still does not turn off using the local switch, the ELT may be defective. In this case, remove the battery pack to disable the ELT and return the ELT to the factory for servicing. Also, check the wiring continuity of the remote switch harness reset circuit and repair if necessary, or replace the remote switch if it's defective.

  If the ARTEX Transmitter shows a 3-Flash error, verify the coax cable and antenna are connected and in good condition. Perform a continuity check of the center conductor and shield, and check for a shorted cable. You may also need to check the antenna with a VSWR meter for opens, shorts, or a resistive ground plane connection. Consider lengthening or shortening the antenna coax cable length by 4 to 6 inches. Ensure a ground plane of at least 12 inches in diameter is provided and stay at least 10-12 inches away from upright metal structures.

  If the ARTEX Transmitter displays a 5-Flash indication, it means there is no navigation position data present. Ensure the aircraft navigation system is turned on. Check the system interface wiring and connections for continuity and security. If a 453-6500 ELT/NAV Interface is not installed, install one. You can also reprogram to a short message.
