Overview

This document describes the "35" Round Fire Pit" (Item#: 63242) from Backyard Creations, an outdoor appliance designed for burning dry, seasoned hardwood.

Function Description:

The fire pit is intended for outdoor use only, providing a source of heat and ambiance. It is not designed for indoor heating, commercial use, or operation by children. It should not be used on boats or recreational vehicles. The fire pit utilizes a mesh screen to contain sparks and a bowl for holding burning materials.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 35" Round
  • SKU: 259-5270
  • Fuel Type: Dry, seasoned hardwood only.
  • Components:
    • Screen Handle (pre-assembled)
    • Mesh Screen
    • Support Ring (pre-assembled to rim)
    • Bowl
    • Upper Ring
    • Bottom Ring
    • Legs (4)
    • Fire Tool
  • Hardware:
    • Bolts: M6X15 (Qty: 12), M6X30 (Qty: 4)
    • Washers: M6 (Qty: 16)
    • Nuts: M6 (Qty: 8)
  • Tools Required (Not included): Wrench, Phillips Head Screwdriver.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The fire pit requires assembly, starting with connecting the screen handle to the mesh screen using a nut and wrench. Next, the legs are attached to the bottom ring using bolts, washers, and nuts, followed by attaching the legs to the upper ring. Finally, the bowl is turned over and attached to the upper ring using bolts, washers, and nuts, and the mesh screen is placed on the bowl. All connections should be securely tightened.
  • Fuel: Only dry, seasoned hardwood should be burned. Charcoal briquets, lump charcoal, manufactured logs, driftwood, trash, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, painted or stained wood, pressure-treated wood, and softwoods (like pine or cedar) are explicitly prohibited as they can throw sparks or produce toxic fumes.
  • Placement: The fire pit must be used on a hard, level, non-combustible surface such as concrete, rock, or stone. Asphalt or blacktop surfaces may not be suitable, and wooden decks are strictly prohibited. If used on a combustible surface, a non-flammable and heat-resistant material (e.g., concrete pavers, brick, or stone) must be placed between the fire pit and the surface.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always use in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national codes.
    • Do not use in an explosive atmosphere or near flammable materials, gasoline, or other liquids.
    • Avoid using under any overhead combustible constructions, overhanging trees, or shrubs.
    • Ensure the fire screen is securely in place before use.
    • Do not use in windy conditions.
    • Do not overload the fire pit; wait for the fire to burn down before adding more wood. Glowing red bowl lid or spark guards indicate overloading.
    • Do not lean over the fire pit when lighting or in use.
    • Keep electrical cords away from the hot fire pit.
    • Do not leave a lit fire pit unattended, especially around children and pets.
    • Do not move or store the fire pit until all ashes and coals are completely extinguished and cooled.
    • Use heat-resistant gloves or hot pads when handling hot surfaces or tools.
    • Use long, sturdy fire pit tools for adding or moving logs.
    • Avoid breathing smoke and getting it into eyes.
    • Do not place hot fire screens or tools onto combustible surfaces.
    • Do not use alcohol, prescription, or non-prescription drugs that may impair the ability to operate the fire pit safely.
    • Do not alter the fire pit in any manner.
    • Do not store or use an LP gas cylinder within 10 feet (3.05m) of the fire pit while it is in operation.
    • Do not use near automobiles, trucks, vans, or recreational vehicles.
    • Do not use gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, or alcohol to light or relight fires.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection and Cleaning: The fire pit should be thoroughly inspected and cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Pre-Use Check: Before each use, the fire pit should be emptied of ashes. After a period of storage or non-use, check for signs of damage and creosote build-up. Do not operate until necessary repairs and/or cleanup are executed.
  • Cooling: Allow the fire pit to completely cool before touching it without protective gear or attempting to move or store it. Do not remove ashes or coals until they are completely and fully extinguished.
