Instructions for Use
Barkey S-line
3.4.3 Recommended safe clearances
Recommended safe clearances between portable and mobile
HF telecommunication appliances and the Barkey S-line
The Barkey S-line is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which the HF distur-
bances are controlled. The customer or the operator of the Barkey S-line can help to avoid elec-
tromagnetic disturbances by complying with the minimum clearance between portable and mo-
bile HF telecommunication appliances (transmitters) and the Barkey S-line as shown below - in
dependence on the output power of the communications appliance.
Safe clearance in dependence on the transmission frequency m
Transmitter's
nominal output

0.1 0.37 0.37 0.74
1 1.17 1.17 2.33
10 3.69 3.69 7.38
100 11.67 11.67 23.33
The recommended safe clearance d in meters (m) can be determined for transmitters whose
maximum nominal output is not shown in the above table by using the equation that belongs to
the respective column, whereby
P is the transmitter's maximum output in watts (W) in accor-
dance with the transmitter manufacturer's information.
NOTE 1 With 80 MHz and 800 MHz the higher frequency range applies.
NOTE 2 These guidelines may not be applicable in all cases. The propagation of electromag-
netic variables is influenced through absorptions and reflections from the buildings, objects and
people.
