The BIOS Diagnostics™ Protocol 7D Blood Pressure Monitor, Model: BD240, is a precision oscillometric device designed for convenient and accurate home measurement of arterial blood pressure and pulse rate. It is specifically engineered to assist in monitoring and maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, with a focus on ease of use and clinical accuracy.
Function Description:
The monitor utilizes oscillometric technology, where a cuff wrapped around the arm is automatically inflated by an air pump. A sensor within the device detects subtle fluctuations in cuff pressure caused by the artery's extension and contraction with each heartbeat. These pressure wave amplitudes are measured and converted into millimeters of mercury (mmHg), which are then displayed on the LCD screen. The device is capable of measuring both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as pulse rate. It also features an Irregular Heartbeat Detector, which alerts the user to any detected irregularities during measurement. The monitor is designed to store a comprehensive history of readings for two users, facilitating long-term tracking and sharing data with healthcare professionals.

Usage Features:
- Protocol Software (7D Mode): This preinstalled software simplifies home measurement procedures recommended by Canadian doctors for assessing white coat hypertension or sustained hypertension. It requires two measurements in the morning (AM) and two in the evening (PM) for seven consecutive days. The monitor automatically averages these measurements and indicates data fulfillment at proper times, providing clear data for physicians. If the protocol is not followed correctly or measurements are missed, the monitor will display "Err."
- General Mode: Allows users to take blood pressure measurements outside the 7D Protocol.
- User Selection: Supports two individual users, each with dedicated memory storage.
- Memory Features: Stores 90 blood pressure readings per user, complete with time and date stamps. This memory is split into 28 readings for 7D Mode and 62 for General Mode. The oldest record is replaced by the latest once memory is full.
- Averaging Function: Automatically averages the last three readings. In 7D Mode, it averages the last six days of measurements, disregarding the first day.
- BP Assessment Indicator: Displays the blood pressure values within ranges defined by Hypertension Canada (Normal, Pre-hypertension, Hypertension), using a color-coded bar on the left side of the display (green, yellow, red).
- Time and Date Display: Shows the current time and date, which are also recorded with each measurement.
- Alarms: Users can set two alarm times as reminders to take measurements or medication.
- LCD Screen: Displays systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, date, and time. It also shows indicators for low battery, memory, and irregular heartbeat.
- AC/DC Power Adapter: The monitor can be operated using the included AC/DC adapter, which conserves battery power when connected to an electrical outlet.
- Automatic Shut-off: The device automatically switches off after 3 minutes of inactivity to conserve power.
- Measurement Interruption: Measurements can be stopped at any time by pressing the START/STOP button, which immediately deflates the cuff.
- Error Messages: The LCD displays specific error codes (E-1, E-2, E-3, E-5, Err) to indicate issues such as weak signal, external disturbance, inflation errors, abnormal blood pressure, or incorrect protocol execution.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Replacement: Uses four AAA batteries. The device will block operation when the battery warning appears until batteries are replaced. It is recommended to use "AAA" Long-Life or Alkaline 1.5V batteries and to remove them if the monitor will be unused for long periods. Do not mix different types, brands, or old and new batteries. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended.
- Cleaning: The device should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Solvents like gasoline or thinner should not be used. Spots on the cuff can be removed with a damp cloth and soap; the cuff with bladder must not be washed or submerged in water.
- Storage: Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, or direct sunlight. If stored at low temperatures, allow it to reach room temperature for at least one hour before use to ensure accuracy.
- Cuff Care: The cuff contains a sensitive air-tight bubble and should be handled carefully to avoid twisting or buckling. The tube should not be pulled, kinked, or exposed to sharp edges.
- Durability: The unit is designed to be robust; avoid dropping, banging, or strong vibrations.
- No User Serviceable Parts: The monitor should never be opened, as this invalidates the manufacturer's warranty.
- Disposal: Batteries and electronic instruments must be disposed of according to local regulations, not with domestic waste.
