7 PnP/PCI Configurations
This section describes configuring the PCI bus system. PCI, or Personal
Computer Interconnect, is a system which allo ws I/O devices to op erate at
speeds nearing the speed o f the CPU itself uses when commun icating with its
own special components. This s ection covers some very technical items and it is
strongly recommended that only experienced users should make any changes to
the default settings.

The system BIOS s uppo rts the PnP feature which req uires the s ystem to record
which resources are ass igned and protects resources fro m co nflict.
Every peripheral devic e has a node, whic h is called ESCD. This nod e records
which resourc es are ass igned to it. The sys tem needs to record and update ESCD
to the memory loc ations. These locations are reserved in the system BIOS. If the
Disabled (default) option is chosen, the system‘s ESCD will update only when
the new co nfiguration varies fro m the last one. If the Enab led option is chosen,
the system is forced to update ESCDs and then is automatically set to the
“Dis abled” mode.
