14. INSTALLATION

Hoist
the
fuselage
by
a
sling
attached
to
the
two
lifting
eyes
at
either
side
of
the
top
cylinder.

spreader

sling.
The
sling
may
also
be
placed
around
the
crankshaft
back
of
the
propeller
hub
or
attached
to
the
engine
mount
on
each
side
where
the
diagonal
tubes
join
the
upper
longerons.
Raise
the
fuselage
until
the
rear
landing
gear
fitting
is
about
60 in<'hes
from
the
floor
and
support
the
tail
so
that
the
thrust
line
is
approximately
level.
Tie
the
tail
down
in
this
position.
b.
Attach
the
V-struts
to
the
fuselage.
Use
the
special
bearing
bolts
furnished
and
place
the
Zerk
ends
to
the
front.

axles
to
the
fuselage,
placing
the
Zerk
ends
of
the
special
bolts
to
the
front.

Connect
the
axle
hinges
to

oleo

bolts

placed

the

15. MAINTENANCE: a.
Inspect
all
parts
at
frequent
intervals,
particularly
the
bolts
and
bearing
points
mentioned
in
Par.
14 b, c, d
and
e.
Worn
parts
should
be
replaced
or
repaired
without
delay,
as
excessive
play
in
the
hinges,
especially
at
c (
Fig.
11
),
may
lead
to
landing
gear
failure.
Clean
and
paint
where
required.
b.
Adjust
the
brakes
frequently,
especially
when
the
brake
lining
is
new.
The
brake
cables
are
to
be
kept
coated
with
graphite
grease.
c.
When
using
a
jack
under
an
axle,
place
a
wood
shim
on
the
head
of
the
jack
to
protect
the
axle
and
pulley
bracket.
d.
Service
the
oleo
units
regularly
in
accordance
with
the
instruction
plate
on
the
V-strut.
Mix
the
oil
and
kerosene
in
a
separate
container
and
agitate
thor-
oughly
before
using.
Where
tempera
tu
res
between
+ 10 °
F.
and
-35
°
F.
are
likely
to
be
encountered,
Gargoyle
Teleo
Oil
AA
should
be
substituted
for
the
Mobiloil
"B."
Gargoyle
Teleo
Oil
AA
is
obtainable
from
the
Vacuum
Oil
Company
of
New
York
through
its
branches
and
agencies.
Main
warehousing
points
are
New
York,
Chicago
and
Detroit.
e.
Keep
the
piston
packing
nuts
adjusted
to
prevent
oil
leakage.
Access
to
the
packing
nuts
may
be
had
by
disassembling
the
oleo
strut.
16.
LUBRICATION:
Lubricate
the
following
points
once a
week
on
air-
planes
in
regular
service.
Do
NOT
grease
the
wheel
bearings
or
permit
oil
or
grease
to
get
on
the
brake
lining.
