41. INSTALLATION TYPE
A-3
BOMB
RACK-Left
Wing (Reference
Fig.
25):
a.
If
the
bomb
rack
has
not
been
previously
installed
punch
the
blue
dots
on
the
under
side
of
the
lower
left
wing
and
re-tap
the
holes.
Install
the
bomb
rack
brackets
on
the
wing, using
the
spacer
blocks
to
keep
the
bomb
rack
horizontal.
b.
Install
the
bomb
rack
on
the
brackets.
c.
Install
the
control
cable
rasings
on
the
under
side
of
the
wing
and
connect
to
the
stops
on
the
wing
fittings
and
bomb
rack,
attaching
the
short
casing
to
the
salvo
(or
selective)
release
stop
and
the
long casing
to
the
arming
control
stop.
Insert
the
cables
into
their
casings,
first
passing
them
over
the
pulleys.
d.
Connect
the
arming
control
cable
to
the
lower connection on
the
inner
arming
handle,
which
is
located
on
the
right
hand
side
of
the
cockpit.
Connect
the
opposite end
to
the
cable
in
the
casing from
the
rack.
Place
the
arming
handle
and
rack
in
the
safe position,
cut
he
cable
to
the
required
length,
allowing ½
inch
slack,
and
serve
into
the
arming
c
ontrol
clevis on
the
bomb
rack.
e.
Connect
the
bomb
release
cable
to
the
lower
bomb
release
handle
on
the
left
hand
side
of
the
cockpit.
Connect
the
opposite end
to
the
cable
in
the
casing
from
the
bomb
rack.
Cut
and
serve
the
cable
into
the
release
control
clevis
on
the
bomb
rack,
allowing ½
inch
slack.
42. INSTALLATION TYPE A-3 BOMB
RACK-Right
Wing (Reference
Fig. 25): a.
The
installation
of
the
Type
A-3
rack
on
the
right
wing is
similar
to
left
wing
installation
except
as
follows:
Connect
the
long
cable
casing
to
the
salvo
(or selective)
release
stops
on
the
wing
fitting
and
rack,
and
the
short
casing
to
the
arming
control
stops.
The
outer
arming
handle
and
the
upper
bomb
release
are
used
for
the
right
wing
bomb
rack.
43. INSTALLATION TYPE C-3 BOMB RACK (Reference Fig. 25): a.
Install
the
bomb
rack
brackets
on
the
fittings
located
on
the
front
and
rear
spars
under
the
fuselage.
Install
the
T
rails
on
the
brackets
and
attach
the
bomb
rack
to
the
rails.
b.
Place
the
inner
arming
handle
and
the
bomb
rack
in
the
safe position.
Attach
the
upper
arming
cable
to
the
safe connection on
the
arming
handle
and
the
lower
cable
to
the
armed
connection.
Connect
the
release
control
cable
to
the
lower
bomb
release
handle,
located
on
the
left
hand
side
of
the
cockpit.
Serve
the
cables
to
the
clevises on
the
bomb
rack,
allowing ½
inch
slack.
Attach
the
cables
as
follows:
Left-release;
center-safe;
right-armed.
(See Fig. 25).
44.
WING
TIP
FLARES INSTALLATION:
If
the
flares
have
not
been in-
stalled
previously, punch
the
four
blue
dots
which
will
be
found on
the
under
side
of
each
lower
wing
tip
and
re-tap
the
holes
with
a 10-32
USF
tap.
Bolt
the
flare
brackets
in
place, securing
the
bolts
with
lockwashers.
Connect
the
flare
lead
terminals
to
the
brackets.
(See
Fig.
24).
45. MAINTENANCE: a. All
cables
are
to
be
kept
coated
with
graphite
grease. Oil all
bearing
points
occasionally.

To
install
the
flotation
bags, lace
to
the
support
flaps
and
connect
the
hose
to
the
CO2
tubes.
Be
sure
to
bond
the
hose connection.
Fold
the
sides of
the
bags
lengthwise
across
each
other
(A,
Fig.
26).
Then
fold
the
ends crosswise,
the
rear
tip
being folded
last
(B, Fig. 26).
The
doors
are
then
installed,
the
cable
release
blocks
and
release
rods
connected
by
joining
the
hooks,
and
the
rod
pushed
into
place.
The
release
rods
are
secured
with
the
lockwire
as
follows: Before
the
doors
are
installed,
bend
the
wire
"U"
shaped
and
hook
it
over
the
inboard
release
r.od
guide.
After
the
doors
are
installed
and
the
release
rod
in place,
pass
one end of
the
wire
through
the
release
cable
eye
and
twist
the
wire ends
together
until
snug.
Do
not
use
larger
than
.025
annealed
copper
wire
as
this
safety
must
be
broken
to
release
the
flotation
bags. See
that
the
retrieving
wires
are
connected.
