INSTALLATION
ON
ENGINE:
The
propeller
must
be
carefully
checked
for
track
and
balance
before
and
after
being
placed
on
the
engine. Oil
the
crank-
shaft
splines
and
thread
before
the
hub
is
installed.
The
hub
nut
should
be
screwed
up
solid
but
must
not
be
forced
with
a
heavy
sledge.
Be
sure
that
the
clamping
ring
bolts
are
cottered.

The
installation
of
the
oil
system
is
very
simple
and
presents
no difficulties.
Note
that
the
oil
tank
should
be
installed
before
the
main
fuel
tank.
Place
safety
wires
on
all
nuts
and
drain
plugs.
The
oil lines
must
be
bonded
at
all
hose
connections.
25.
MAINTENANCE:
a.
Inspect
the
entire
oil
system
at
regular
intervals.
Be
sure
that
all
fittings
and
connections
are
tight.
Check
the
gages
occasionally
to
see
that
they
register
correctly.
Check
the
operation
of
the
relief
valve.
b.
Clean
the
oil
strainers
after
every
ten
hours
service
or
oftener.
c.
The
oil
system
may
be
drained
by
removing
the
drain
plugs in
the
oil
tank
outlet
pipe
and
the
engine sump.
d.
Do
not
forget
to
replace
any
cotters
or
lockwires
removed.
26.
REPAIRS
(Reference

and
17):
The
oil
tank
may
be
removed
through
either
side
of
the
fuselage
but
the
right
side
is
preferable.
Disconnect
all
pipe
lines,
fittings
and
controls
interfering.
Support
the
main
fuel
tank
securely so
that
it
will
not
move
when
the
cradle
is
loosened.
Loosen
the
turnbuckle
in
the
forward
cradle
strap,
remove
the
clevis
pins
at
.
both
ends
of
the
strap
and
remove
it.
Remove
the
oil
level
gage, loosen
the
tank
support
straps,
and
the
tank
may
be
removed.
b.
The
oil
tank
is
constructed
of
aluminum
and
repairs
can
only
be
made
by
welding.
