36. MAINTENANCE:
Examine
all
terminals
and
connections
occasionally
for
corrosion
and
deteriorated
insulation.
Examine
the
insulation
wherever
the
wires
are
in
contact
with
the
airplane
and
if
the
insulation
is
found
to
be
worn,
reinforce
it
with
several
layers
of
friction
tape.

the
guns
in
position
by
passing
them
forward
through
the
cockpit.
Install
the
trunnion
bolts,
mounting
post
bolts
and
the
blast
tube
supports
at
sta.
1.
Remove
the
firewall
cover
plates,
if
in
place,
and
insert
the
blast
tubes
through
the
nose cowl.
Secure
the
blast
tubes
to
the
guns
and
torward
supports.

Lev
el
the
airplane
as
directed
in
paragraph
10,
page
13.
Stretch
a
line
from
the
top
rudder
hinge
to
an
upright
on
the
crank
shaft,
the
line
to
be
plumb
over
the
thrust
line.
Now
level
the
guns
and
blast
tubes
by
means
of
the
mounting
post
bolts.
The
lat
e
ral
alignment
is
obtained
by
dropping
plumb-lines
from
the
line
to
level
of
the
guns
and
tubes
and
taking
lateral
measurements
to
their
center-
lines.
Check
the
level
again
and
tighten
and
lock
all
nuts.
d.
Install
the
impulse
wires
and
housings
between
the
trigger
motors
and
the
synchronizer
upper
connections.
Attach
the
trigger
control
cables
to
the
lower
synchronizer
connections.
e.
Check
the
synchronizer
by
turning
the
propeller
by
hand
while
the
triggers
are
held
back.
(The
guns
should
not
be
loaded).
The
firing
point,
as
determined
~y
the
operation
of
the
trigger
motor,
should
be
from
4
to
8
inches
behind
the
trail-
mg
edge
of
the
propeller.
See
that
nuts
and
bolts
are
safetied
and
replace
the
cowling.

The
ammunition
reels
are
loaded
as
follows:
Remove
the
housing
under
the
reels
and
pl.a?e a box of
ammunition
in
line
with
the
feed
chute.
Carry
the
end
ot
the
ammun1t10n
belt
through
the
access
hole
in
the
feed
chute,
insert
the
first
round
under
the
clip
on
the
reel
hub
and
rotate
the
reel
to
load.
Access
to
the
reels
may
be
had
through
a
door
in
the
body
under
the
ejection
chutes.
Adjust
the
reel
brakes
and
repla
ce
the
housings.
