3.1.2 LCM Units
The Lighting Control Modules (LCMs) for the BR3000 MLS system are LED-based
luminaires which operate from 115 Vac, 400 Hz aircraft power. Under the command of
the MLCP unit, the LCM units display multi-color light of varying intensity utilizing an
array of RGBW LED emitters.
There are two families of LCM units employed in the BR3000-747ER MLS system:
BC1-0229-xxx, 20-inch LCM units.
BC1-0230-xxx, 35-inch LCM units.
Each of these LCM families comes in three different configurations which will be used
for ceiling, sidewall, and the so-called Hat-Rack area. The Hat-Rack area is the central
spine of the ceiling area. This area is only illuminated in the A330 Classic cabin (-2CL, -
3CL) configuration of the MLS and will not be illuminated in the A330 Enhanced cabin (-
2EN) configuration.
The only variation between the various models of LCM units within the BC1-0229 and
BC1-0230 LCM series is the mounting bracket configuration for the units. From an
electrical standpoint, the LCM units in each of these series are identical. A complete
breakdown of the LCM models employed in a typical A330-200 Classic MLS installation
is shown in Table 3. A representative illustration of the BC1-0229-xxx, 20-inch LCM
unit is shown in Figure 6. A representative illustration of the BC1-0230-xxx, 35-inch
LCM unit is shown in Figure 7. Connector and pin-out information for both of these
LCM series is provided in Figure 8.
The BC1-0229-xxx and BC1-0230-xxx series of LCM units are constructed in modular
segments and make use of the same electrical sub-assemblies regardless of length.
Longer LCM units simply employ more of these identical electrical assemblies; refer to
the basic functional block diagram in Figure 9. As shown in the block diagram, there is
an Input Module, an LED Driver Board, and an LED Board. Each LED Driver / LED
Board pair acts independently to implement 9 to 15” of luminaire length. Longer LCM
units simply employ more of the LED Driver / LED Board pairs.
A functional explanation of the Input Module, the LED Driver Board, and the LED Board
are included in the following sub-paragraphs. The functional descriptions are keyed to
the numbered items in the detailed LCM block diagrams provided in Figure 10 and
Figure 11.
