All models include a standard built-in double-pole thermostat with an "OFF" position and a fan switch. New installations require a wall can (sold separately), either the NLWC Recess Mount or NLWCS Surface Mount.

Physical Dimensions:

  • Wall Can Top: 14 1/8 inches (35.88 cm)
  • Wall Can Side: 15 inches (38.1 cm)
  • Grill Front: 16 3/4 inches (42.54 cm) wide, 21 inches (53.34 cm) high, with a depth of 13/16 inches (2.06 cm) from the wall.
  • Wall Can Depth: 4 inches (10.16 cm)
  • Wall Can Height: 19 1/8 inches (48.58 cm)

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The heater must be installed in a fixed, permanent location within a wall can (NLWC or NLWC-S models). It is not approved for ceiling mount. The wall can must be installed in the TOP UP (vertical) position only.
    • New Construction: Mount the wall can to studs using screws through the larger (3/16 inch) holes. The face of the wall can should extend 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch from the face of the stud to accommodate sheetrock thickness.
    • Existing Wall: Cut a hole 14 1/4 inches wide by 19 1/4 inches high next to a wall stud. Insert the wall can into the opening, ensuring it is flush with the wall, and secure it to the wall stud with screws.
    • Wiring: Route supply wire from the circuit breaker to the top of the wall can. Remove a knockout, attach the supply wire with a strain relief connector, leaving 6 inches of wire lead. Connect the supply ground wire to the grounding screw in the wall can.
    • Heater Assembly: Place the heater assembly inside the wall can and secure it with two provided screws. Connect the two heater wires to the two supply wires using insulated wire connectors. Push wires into the wiring junction box.
    • Grill Installation: Secure the grill with provided screws. Slide the thermostat knob onto the shaft.
  • Placement Restrictions: DO NOT install directly above a bathtub or sink, in a shower stall area, in a floor, below a towel bar, behind a door, or anywhere air discharge may be blocked. Cadet recommends at least 2 feet (61 cm) clearance from water sources and 12 inches from adjacent surfaces and the floor for optimal performance (minimum 6 inches). Heaters must be spaced at least 3 feet apart.
  • Electrical Requirements: All electrical work must comply with NEC, OSHA, and local codes. Use copper conductors only. Heaters must be connected to a GFCI protected branch circuit in bathrooms. Electric heaters require a dedicated circuit and cannot share a circuit with outlets, lights, or other appliances.
  • Operation:
    • Initial Startup: After installation, turn the heater to the highest setting and run it for 30 minutes. Some smoking may occur initially as manufacturing residue burns off.
    • Fan Cycling with Heat (AUTO mode): Turn the fan switch to "AUTO" and the thermostat knob fully clockwise. When the room reaches the desired comfort level, turn the thermostat knob counterclockwise until the heater turns off. Heat and fan will cycle automatically.
    • Fan Running Continuously with Intermittent Heat (FAN mode): Turn the fan switch to "FAN" and the thermostat knob fully clockwise. When the room reaches the desired comfort level, turn the thermostat knob counterclockwise until the heater turns off. The heater will cycle, but the fan will run constantly.
    • Fan Running Continuously with No Heat (FAN mode): Turn the fan switch to "FAN" and the thermostat knob just above the "OFF" position.
  • High-Temperature Safety Shutoff: The heater is protected by a temperature-limiting control that opens the circuit if excessive operating temperatures are detected.
    • Resetting: If the shutoff trips, turn off electrical power at the panel board. Allow the unit to cool for at least 10 minutes. Resolve the problem (e.g., clear blockages, clean heater). Use a narrow, pointed object to press the high-temperature safety shutoff button through the right center section of the heater grill until a click is felt.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance (As needed, or every six months minimum):
    1. Safety First: Turn off electrical power at the circuit breaker or fuse box and lock/tag the panel board door to prevent accidental power-on.
    2. Remove Grill: Remove screws, thermostat knob, and take off the grill.
    3. Clean Grill: Wash the grill with hot soapy water and dry immediately.
    4. Clean Element: While holding the blower wheel (to avoid damage), use a hair dryer or vacuum on a blow cycle to clear debris through the element (do not touch the element).
    5. Clean Blower Area: Vacuum the blower area without touching the element.
    6. Motor: Do not lubricate the motor.
    7. Reassemble: Replace the grill and secure with screws. Replace the thermostat knob.
    8. Restore Power: Turn power back on at the electrical panel board.
  • Troubleshooting Chart: Provides solutions for common issues such as breaker trips, fan operating without heat, heater not shutting off, smoke/burnt odor, element heating without fan, and heater not running.
