Overview

This document describes the Caple C809C Ceramic Hob, an appliance designed for domestic cooking.

Function Description

The Caple C809C is a ceramic hob that utilizes resistance wire heating to directly heat the bottom of cookware. The power output for each cooking zone can be adjusted using dedicated control knobs. It is intended for household use and is not designed for commercial applications. The hob features four cooking zones, allowing for multiple dishes to be prepared simultaneously.

Usage Features

The hob is operated via four control knobs, each corresponding to a specific cooking zone.

  • Starting Cooking: Place a suitable pan on the desired cooking zone, ensuring the pan's base and the hob surface are clean and dry. Turn on and adjust the power by rotating the control knob to the desired level.
  • Cookware Selection: It is crucial to use cookware with smooth, flat bases that sit flush against the glass and are the same size as the cooking zone. Pans should always be centered on the cooking zone. Cookware with jagged edges or curved bases should be avoided to prevent scratching the glass. Pans should always be lifted off the hob rather than slid.
  • Cooking Guidelines:
    • General: Reduce temperature settings when food comes to a boil. Using a lid can reduce cooking times and save energy. Minimize liquid or fat for faster cooking. Start cooking on a high setting and reduce once the food has heated through.
    • Simmering: Occurs below boiling point (around 85°C) with occasional bubbles. Ideal for soups, stews, and egg/flour-thickened sauces.
    • Searing Steak: Bring meat to room temperature. Heat a heavy-based frying pan. Brush steak with oil, add a small amount of oil to the hot pan, and then place the steak. Turn only once. Cooking times vary based on thickness (2-8 minutes per side). Rest the steak before serving.
    • Stir-Frying: Use a compatible flat-based wok or large frying pan. Prepare all ingredients in advance. Cook large quantities in smaller batches. Preheat pan, add oil, cook meat first and set aside, then stir-fry vegetables. Return meat to the pan with sauce, stir gently, and serve.
  • Heat Settings (Guidelines):
    • 1-2: Delicate warming, melting chocolate/butter, gentle simmering, slow warming.
    • 3-4: Reheating, rapid simmering, cooking rice.
    • 5-6: Pancakes.
    • 7-8: Sautéing, pasta.
    • 9: Stir-frying, searing, bringing soup to the boil, boiling water.
  • Hot Zone Warning Indicator: An indicator light illuminates when a cooking zone is hot, even after being turned off. Users should avoid touching the glass surface until the indicator goes out. This feature also serves as an energy-saving function, allowing users to heat further pans on still-hot zones.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Everyday Soiling (fingerprints, food marks, non-sugary spills): Switch off the hob. Apply a hob cleaner while the glass is warm (but not hot). Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Switch the power back on.
    • Boilovers, Melts, Hot Sugary Spills: Immediately remove with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper suitable for ceramic glass hobs. Switch off the power at the wall. Hold the blade at a 30° angle and scrape the spill to a cool area of the hob. Clean up the spill with a dishcloth or paper towel. Then follow the steps for "Everyday soiling on glass."
  • Important Cleaning Notes:
    • When the power is off, the "hot surface" indication will not be visible, but the cooking zone may still be hot. Exercise extreme care.
    • Avoid heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers, and harsh/abrasive cleaning agents as they may scratch the glass. Always check cleaner labels for suitability.
    • Never leave cleaning residue on the hob, as it can stain the glass.
    • Remove melts and sugary food spills as soon as possible; if left to cool, they may be difficult to remove or permanently damage the glass surface.
    • Use razor blade scrapers with extreme care and store them safely out of reach of children due to their sharp blades.
    • Do not use a steam cleaner to clean the hob.

Safety Instructions

  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Disconnect from mains before maintenance. Good earth wiring is mandatory. Alterations to wiring must be done by a qualified electrician. Do not cook on a broken or cracked hob; switch off immediately and contact a technician. Switch off at the wall before cleaning.
  • Cut Hazard: Panel edges are sharp; handle with care.
  • Hot Surface Hazard: Accessible parts become hot during use. Avoid contact with body, clothing, or unsuitable items until cool. Metallic objects like knives, forks, spoons, and lids should not be placed on the hob surface.
  • General Safety: Keep children away from the appliance. Handles of saucepans can be hot; ensure they do not overhang active cooking zones. Never leave unattended while in use. Do not use as a work or storage surface. Do not store objects or utensils on the appliance. Do not use for warming or heating the room. Always turn off cooking zones and the hob after use. Do not allow children to play, sit, stand, or climb on the appliance. Do not store children's toys in cabinets above the appliance. Supervise children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced capabilities, when using the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be done by children without supervision. Unattended cooking with fat or oil can cause fire; never extinguish with water, but switch off and cover with a lid or fire blanket. Do not store items on cooking surfaces. If the glass surface is cracked, switch off immediately to avoid electric shock. The appliance is not intended for operation by an external timer or remote-control system. Do not place or drop heavy objects on the hob. Do not stand on the hob. Do not use scourers or harsh abrasive cleaning agents. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Caple service or similarly qualified persons.
