Assistedstarting(Jump-starting)
Nevertrytostartthemachinewhenthebatteriesarede-
fectiveorfrozen.Youcanperformassistedstartingor
jumpstartingfromotherbatteryormachine.
Onlyconnectbatteries(batteryassemblies)withthesame
voltage.Onlyusetestedjumpercableswithinsulatedter-
minalclipsandanadequateleaddiameter.Ahighcurrent
owsonconnectionofthegroundcable.Ensurethatthe
bodiesofthesupplyingandreceivingmachinesarenotin
contact.Otherwiseacurrentowmightresultfromcon-
nectingthepositivepoles.Sparksoccurringatthecontact
pointmayignitegasesatthedischargedbattery.Connect
thegroundcabletotheframeasfaraspossibleawayfrom
thedischargedbattery.Duringassistedstartingopera-
tions(bymeansofanexternalbattery),donotleanover
thebatteries.Weargoggles.

Riskofshort-circuiting
Whenperformingassistedstarting,neverusepowersuppliescreatinganover-voltage,suchastwoorthreebatteries
inseriesordevicesgeneratingvoltagesabove12V.Neveruseweldinggeneratorsorweldingtransformers.
Positionthejumpercablesinsuchawaythattheycannotbecaughtbyrotatingenginecomponents.Checkwhether
thebatteryofthereceivingmachine(dischargedbattery)isinworkingorder:
•
SwitchOffelectricalaccessories(lights,fans).
•
Insertthekeyintotheswitchandturnit“ON”,thewarninglampsfortheenginecheckmustturnOn.
•
IfwarninglampsdonotturnOn,thebatteryisfaulty(completelydischargedorwithshort-circuitinside).
Inthiscasethemachinemustnotbestarted,asthealternatorwouldthenbedamaged.Installafunctionalbattery
beforejump-starting.
Connectingcables
SwitchOffallelectricalaccessoriesinreceivingmachineandturnthekeyto“0”.SwitchOffallaccessoriesinsupplying
machine(boosterbattery)andshutoffengine.Connecttheredjumpercabletothepositiveclampofthedischarged
battery(1)andthentothepositiveclampoftheboosterbattery(2).Connecttheblackjumpercablersttothenegative
clampoftheboosterbattery(2)andthentotheframe(3)onthereceivingmachine.
Startingtheengine
Starttheengineofthesupplyingmachine.Increaserpm.Starttheengineofthereceivingmachine.Iftheengine
doesnotstart,waitfor1minandrepeatthestartingprocedure.Oncetheengineisstarted,switch“ON”someof
theaccessorieswithhighcurrentabsorption,suchascompletelighting.Thispreventsvoltagepeaks,fromoccurring
whenthejumpercablesaredisconnected.Disconnectthejumpercablesinreverseorderasusedwheninstalling.
Runtheengineatmoderatespeedforabouthalfanhour.Thebatteriesrechargepartially.Havetheelectricalsystem
ofthemachinechecked,todeterminewhythebatterywasdischarged.
