The crop is continuously picked-up and fed into the
baler by four-bat pick-up assembly (16). Baffle plate
(17) guides the material into the baler. Two centering
augers (15) move material from the ends of the pick-
up into packer (14) Fig. 1, or rotor (18) Fig. 3,
depending on the type of feeding system.

The crop is continuously moved from the pick-up into
pre-compression chamber (11) by means of double-tine
packer fingers, or by a rotor. Crop holding fingers
(10) retains the material in the pre-
compression chamber. At this stage stuffer fork (12) is
at rest (at the low end of the pre-compression
chamber).
