CAUTION: PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE ATC-601 TEST SET WILL RESULT IF THE
ANTENNA CONNECTOR ON THE TEST SET IS USED INSTEAD OF TH E
POWER OUTPUT C
ONNECTOR.
(2) Connect the ATC-601 test set (power output) to the aircraft antenna coax with the test coax
cable.
NOTE: When Dual Diversity is installed, turn Test Set dual diversity OFF.
NOTE: It is acceptable to use the indirect method of testing the transponders utilizing the
ATC-601 test set antenna.
(3) Cover the top XPDR-1 antenna with the Test Set Absorption Shield.
(4) Turn the ATC-601 test set on and press SELF TEST button.
(5) Press the RUN/STOP button.
(6) The test set will begin a SELF TEST.
(7) If a failure is indicated, correct the problem before continuing.
(8) Press the SETUP button.
(9) Use the SELECT and SLEW buttons to set the Range and Height elds to 0.
(10) Fill in the LOSS=Field with the value from the sleeve on the test coax cable.
(11) Split the loss between 1030 and 1090. (If using the indirect method, set Range and Height to
approximate distance from test antenna to aircraft.)
(12) On the test set, press the AUTO TEST button.
(13) Press the RUN/STOP button to start the test.
(14) Make sure the transponder passes all of the applicable tests.
(15) Press the POWER TEST button.
(16) Press the RUN/STOP button.
(17) Make sure the Effective Radiated Power (ERP) is between 48.5 and 57.0 dBm.
(18) Make sure the Minimum Trigger Level (MTL) is –74-/+ 3.0 dBm.
(19) Press AUT O TEST, then use the SELECT button to select test #3-ATCRBS.
(20) Press the RUN/STOP button.
(21) Make sure that the ALT = eld corresponds to pilot's altimeter.
(22) Press the ID button on the RMU 1 Controller.
(23) Make sure that the REPLY Annunciator appears on the RMU 1 Controller and ID 1200 appears
on the Test Set. The ID will stay on for approximately 15 seconds.
(24) Sequentially repeat the IDENT portion of the test using the Pilots and Co-Pilots control wheel
IDENT buttons.
(25) Do Steps 12F(1) through 12F(24) for the top XPDR 1 diversity antenna.
(26) Do Steps 12F(1) through 12F(25) for Co-pilots XPDR 2 components and SEC ENC ALT Air
Data Computer.
G. Tail Number Verication:
(1) Connect the IFR ATC-601 test set (antenna connector) to the at plate antenna supplied with
the test set with the coax supplied with the test set.
(2) Hold/mount the antenna so that no large metal objects are between the tester antenna and the
aircraft XRDR 1 antenna.
