What to do if the Char-Broil 463244012 Grill burner won't light using the ignitor?

      Clayton HarrisJul 31, 2025
If the burners on your Char-Broil Grill won't light using the ignitor, start by replacing the battery with a new alkaline one. If that doesn't work, check the wires connected to the ignitor and electrode to ensure they are properly connected. If the wires are loose or disconnected, reconnect them or replace the electrode/wire assembly. Also, inspect the electrode for cracks or damage. If you notice any damage or the electrode 'sparks at the crack,' replace the electrode.

Why won't my Char-Broil Grill burner light with the ignitor?
    • J
      Jose GreenAug 6, 2025
If the burner(s) on your Char-Broil grill won't light using the ignitor, there might be an obstruction in the burner tubes caused by spider webs or other debris. Make sure that you clean burner tubes. Also, make sure the valves are positioned inside of burner tubes. If there's still no gas flow, ensure your LP cylinder isn't empty. If the cylinder isn't empty, refer to 'Sudden drop in gas flow'.

If the burner(s) on your Char-Broil grill won't light using the ignitor, and you suspect a vapor lock, turn off the control knobs and disconnect the coupling nut from the LP cylinder. Then, reconnect the coupling nut to the LP cylinder and try lighting the grill again. Also, make sure the coupling nut and LP cylinder valve are fully connected by hand-tightening the coupling nut an additional one-half to three-quarters of a turn until you reach a solid stop. Avoid using tools to tighten it.

    • W
      Wayne HarringtonAug 18, 2025
If the burner(s) on your Char-Broil grill won't light using the ignitor, ensure you are attempting to light the correct burner following the instructions on the control panel and in the Use and Care section. Also, make sure the tip of the electrode is pointing towards the gas port opening on the burner, positioned approximately 1/8” to 1/4” away. Adjust the position if necessary.

What to do if Char-Broil Grill ignitor is sparking?
    • K
      Kenneth OrtizAug 25, 2025
If the burner(s) on your Char-Broil grill won't light using the ignitor, the wire and/or electrode may be covered with cooking residue. To resolve this, clean the wire and/or electrode using rubbing alcohol and a clean swab. Also, inspect the wires between the ignitor and electrode for any shorting (sparking). If shorting is observed, replace the ignitor wire/electrode assembly.
