How to fix a Char-Broil 463420509 ignitor that's not sparking?
    • L
      Lee MillerAug 6, 2025
If your Char-Broil Grill ignitor isn't sparking, start by replacing the AA-size alkaline battery with a new one. Next, inspect the electrode. If it's cracked or broken, it needs to be replaced. Also, make sure the tip of the electrode is correctly positioned, pointing towards the gas port opening on the burner, with a distance of about 1/8” to 1/4”. If the wire or electrode is covered with cooking residue, clean it using rubbing alcohol and a clean swab. Check the wires; if they are loose or disconnected, reconnect them or replace the electrode/wire assembly. If the wires are shorting, replace the ignitor wire/electrode assembly. Ensure that burner tubes are not obstructed with spider webs or other matter.

What to do if my Char-Broil 463420509 burner won't light with the ignitor?
    • R
      Russell BrownOct 28, 2025
If your Char-Broil Grill burner isn't lighting with the ignitor, several factors could be at play. First, make sure the valves are correctly positioned inside the burner tubes. Check for obstructions like spider webs in the burner tubes; if present, clean them. Ensure your LP cylinder isn't empty. If it's not, there might be a vapor lock; try disconnecting and reconnecting the coupling nut. Also, confirm the coupling nut and LP cylinder valve are fully connected, tightening by hand. Other potential issues include a cracked electrode (replace it), an improperly positioned electrode tip (adjust it to point toward the gas port opening, about 1/8” to 1/4” away), cooking residue on the wire or electrode (clean with rubbing alcohol), loose or disconnected wires (reconnect or replace the assembly...

Why won't my Char-Broil 463420509 Grill burner light with the ignitor, even with a full propane tank?
    • A
      Alyssa HawkinsOct 31, 2025
Even with a full propane tank, your Char-Broil Grill burner might not light due to several reasons. The burner might not be engaged with the control valve; ensure the valves are positioned inside the burner tubes. There could be an obstruction in the burner; check for spider webs or other debris. A vapor lock at the coupling nut might be the issue; try turning off the knobs, disconnecting, and reconnecting the nut. Also, make sure the coupling nut and LP cylinder valve are fully connected. The electrode could be cracked, the tip might be improperly positioned (adjust to 1/8” to 3/16”), or the wire/electrode could be covered in cooking residue (clean with rubbing alcohol). Wires could also be loose, disconnected or shorting. Finally, ensure you are trying to light the correct burner, follow...
