What to do if the flames keep blowing out on my Char-Broil Classic C-453?
    • R
      Robin WallaceAug 17, 2025
If the flames on your Char-Broil Grill blow out, it could be due to high or gusting winds. Turn the front of the grill to face the wind or increase the flame height. Also, check if you are low on LP gas and refill the LP cylinder if needed. Another cause can be the excess flow valve tripped. Refer to “Sudden drop in gas flow” solution.

Why is there no spark when I press the ignition button on my Char-Broil Classic C-453?
    • C
      Candace LeblancAug 19, 2025
If no sparks appear at any electrodes when the electronic ignition button is pressed and no noise can be heard from the spark module on your Char-Broil Grill, first check the battery orientation. If that's not the issue, replace the battery with a new alkaline battery. If problems persist, unscrew the button cap assembly and reinstall, making sure threads are aligned and engaged fully. It may also be a faulty spark module, which would need replacing.

What to do if my Char-Broil Classic C-453 isn't sparking but I can hear the module?

      weeksnicoleAug 22, 2025
If no sparks appear at any electrodes when the electronic ignition button is pressed, but noise can be heard from the spark module on your Char-Broil Grill, the output lead connections might not be connected. Remove and reconnect all output connections at the module and electrodes.

Why can't I fill my Char-Broil Classic C-453 Grill LP cylinder?
    • B
      bmcbrideAug 26, 2025
If you are unable to fill your LP cylinder, some dealers may have older fill nozzles with worn threads. Try a second LP dealer.

How to prevent flare-ups on my Char-Broil Grill?
    • D
      Donald CervantesAug 28, 2025
Flare-ups on a Char-Broil Grill can happen due to grease buildup. Clean the burners and the inside of the grill/firebox to resolve this. Another cause can be excessive fat in the meat, so trim the fat before grilling. Finally, high cooking temperatures can also cause flare-ups, so adjust the temperature accordingly.

Why is the flame so low on my Char-Broil Grill?
    • M
      mccartykellyAug 31, 2025
A sudden drop in gas flow or low flame in your Char-Broil Grill can occur if you're out of gas. Check the LP cylinder to ensure it has gas. Another cause could be that the excess flow valve has tripped. To fix this, turn off the knobs, wait 30 seconds, and light the grill. If the flames are still low, turn off the knobs and the LP cylinder valve, disconnect the regulator, reconnect it, leak-test, turn on the LP cylinder valve, wait 30 seconds, and then light the grill. A vapor lock at the coupling nut/LP cylinder connection can also cause this issue. Turn off the knobs and LP cylinder valve, disconnect the coupling nut from the cylinder, reconnect it, and try again.

How to stop a grease fire in my Char-Broil Classic C-453?
    • C
      Christopher RodriguezSep 2, 2025
If you have a persistent grease fire in your Char-Broil Grill, turn the knobs to the OFF position and turn off the gas at the LP cylinder. Leave the lid in position and let the fire burn out. After the grill cools, remove and clean all parts.

What causes fire in the burner tubes of my Char-Broil Classic C-453?
    • M
      Marcus ThompsonSep 5, 2025
If you experience flashback (fire in the burner tubes) in your Char-Broil Grill, turn the knobs to the OFF position. This issue is often caused by blocked burner and/or burner tubes, so clean the burner and/or burner tubes. See burner cleaning section of Use and Care.

Why are the sparks weak on my Char-Broil Classic C-453?
    • A
      Aaron WallaceSep 7, 2025
If sparks are present but not at all electrodes and/or not at full strength on your Char-Broil Grill, remove and reconnect all output connections at module and electrodes. If possible, observe grill in a dark location and operate ignition system, look for arcing between output wires and grill frame. Also, replace the battery with a new alkaline battery. Use a paper towel to remove any moisture from the electrodes. Finally, replace any cracked or broken electrodes.
