The Chevin Research A Series Professional Power Amplifiers are a range of high-performance audio amplifiers designed for professional sound reinforcement applications. The series includes models A750, A1000, A1500, A2000, A2500, A3000, A5000, A6000, Q6, and Q900, offering a variety of power outputs and channel configurations to suit different system requirements.

Function Description:

These amplifiers are designed to take an audio input signal and amplify it to drive loudspeakers. They feature electronically balanced inputs, allowing them to accept signals from both balanced and unbalanced sources, and connect to loudspeakers via Neutrik Speakon sockets. The amplifiers incorporate various protection systems to ensure reliable operation and safeguard connected equipment.

Usage Features:

  • Input Connections: All inputs are electronically balanced and accept signals from balanced and unbalanced sources. A750/A1000/A1500/A2000/A2500/A3000/A5000/A6000/Q900 models feature male and female XLR connectors per channel, wired in parallel. Q6 amplifiers have one female XLR connector per channel.
  • Output Connections: Connection to the load is made via Neutrik Speakon sockets. Most models have 2 parallel-connected Speakon sockets per channel. Q6 has 2 pairs of parallel-connected Speakon sockets, each pair carrying the output of 2 channels.
  • Bridge Mode (Mono): A750/A1000/A1500/A2000/A3000/Q900 models can be bridged for mono operation, combining the power of two channels into a single output. This involves specific input and output wiring configurations. The A2500/A5000/A6000 models are permanently connected in bridge mode and cannot be further bridged.
  • Front Panel Controls: Each channel features an output control (gain knob) to adjust the output level.
  • LED Indicators:
    • Power LEDs (Green): Indicate the unit is ON.
    • Signal LEDs (Green): Illuminate when a signal is present.
    • Clip LEDs (Red): Illuminate when the amplifier is being driven into clip and indicate the SoftClip system is active.
    • Output Voltage LEDs (Green, A2500/A5000/A6000): Provide an indication of output voltage, with the 70V LED indicating imminent clipping.
  • Variable Speed Fans: Fans run when the amplifier is switched on and adjust their speed based on signal level and ambient temperature to ensure optimal cooling.
  • Pre-Set Limiter (A2500/A5000/A6000): These models incorporate an adjustable output limiting control, concealed behind the front panel, which can be configured by an authorized Chevin dealer.
  • Mains Power Supply: Amplifiers connect to the mains supply via a fixed power cable. A5000, A6000, and Q900 models have two power cables. All Chevin amplifiers must be earthed.
  • Loudspeaker Impedance: Recommended total loading for the amplifiers varies by model, typically 4Ω or 2Ω minimum per channel, with specific guidance for connecting multiple speakers in parallel.

Protection Systems:

  • Mains Power Supply Failure: The unit AutoMutes for ten seconds when power is restored.
  • Shorted Output: Operates indefinitely into a shorted output, protecting the amplifier. Normal operation resumes upon removal of the short circuit.
  • Low Load Impedance: Immediate protection.
  • Clipping: The SoftClip circuit activates to prevent hard clipping.
  • DC or Very Low Frequency Signal at Output: A self-resetting circuit activates to protect the load.
  • RF at Output: A circuit activates to protect speakers from HF burnout.
  • Cooling Systems: Internal fans react to signal level and temperature to prevent overheating.

Maintenance Features:

  • Servicing: All servicing and internal maintenance must be referred to an authorized Chevin dealer. Users are warned not to remove covers, touch internal parts, or allow objects to enter the unit.
  • Damage: In case of water damage or mechanical damage, the unit should be immediately disconnected from the mains and a qualified engineer consulted.
  • Warranty: A 24-month warranty covers defects due to faulty materials and workmanship, subject to restrictions such as proper usage, no unauthorized modifications, and no transit damage. Warranty service requires notification to the dealer and prior approval for returns. Goods must be packed carefully and returned pre-paid, with insurance recommended.
