Most of the descriptors of the all-new 2.0L Tigershark engine
apply to the higher-performance version of this powerplant,
including advanced electrohydraulic actuation of the intake
valves — technology that ensures precise valve actuation, timing
and duration. The 2.4L also minimizes fuel consumption and
engine noise; helping here are the aluminum head/camshaft
cover and the aluminum front engine cover (serving, too, to help
reduce weight). Notable in both Tigershark displacements are
the specialized oil squirters, which spray oil on the bottom of the
pistons: the technology helps maintain cylinder wall and piston
temperatures for improved fuel economy and performance
over competitive engines lacking the feature. Estimates for
performance meld economy with capability: 184 hp/171 lb-ft
of torque available for select 2014 Dodge Dart and
Jeep
®
Cherokee models.
Advantages: low, consistent operating temperatures, with MultiAir
technology enabling larger displacement figures; better fuel
figures than comparable engines which lack the technology.
THE PENTASTAR
®
V6 ENGINES: OUTSTANDING POWER, IMPRESSIVE FUEL ECONOMY
Spanning the brands of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, the Pentastar V6 powerplant delivers
exceptional fuel efficiency and refined performance. As the most advanced 6-cylinder engine
in the history of Chrysler Group LLC Powertrain, it provides increases over its predecessors of
up to 38 percent more horsepower and up to 11 percent greater torque — while improving fuel
economy up to 11 percent over the engine(s) it replaces.
Main attributes of the Pentastar V6 include dual-overhead camshafts, a high-pressure die-
cast aluminum cylinder block, high-flow intake and exhaust ports and dual independent
camshaft phasing. The newest iteration of the proven Pentastar V6 modifies displacement to
achieve similar outstanding performance characteristics while ensuring the ideal use of fuel;
anticipate outstanding economy ratings. The new 3.2L Pentastar V6 — with Flex Fuel calibration
appearing later in the model year to further boost fuel economy figures — will be mated to
the new 9-speed automatic transmission, with applications first appearing in the all-new 2014
Jeep Cherokee models.
The combination of the Pentastar V6 powerplant with the increasing variety of transmissions
demonstrates our commitment to innovation, economy, and performance. The 3.6L Pentastar
V6 will be offered on the following 2014 models:
Chrysler 200 — 283 hp/260 lb-ft of torque
