Overview

This document describes the Coleman HWOD (Hot Water on Demand) H2Oasis Series, a portable and self-contained water heater designed for outdoor showering and cleaning tasks. It is explicitly stated that this appliance is not intended for the supply of drinking water.

Function Description:

The Coleman HWOD H2Oasis unit provides hot water on demand for outdoor use. It operates using propane gas and features a rechargeable Li-Ion battery that powers the pump and circuitry. The device is designed to heat a water source up to approximately 30°C above ambient temperature, with a maximum output temperature of 50°C +/- 2°C. Water is drawn from a container (such as the included 5-gallon collapsible water carrier) by a pump, heated by a gas burner, and then delivered through a detachable handheld shower. The unit includes a control knob to adjust the desired water temperature and a display panel (which varies by model) to show status, water temperature, and error codes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Pressure: 2.8 kPa
  • Injector size: 0.66mm
  • Total gas consumption: 21.0 MJ/h
  • Gas type: Propane LPG (disposable gas cylinders certified to DOT-39 NRC 232/290 M1110)
  • Battery: 12 Volt / 2000 mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery (#1394551)
  • Fuse: 5A (#1394557)
  • Water heating capacity: Approximately 150 Litres of warm or hot water on one full battery charge and a 16.4 oz. cylinder of propane.
  • Maximum water temperature: 50°C +/- 2°C. The burner will shut off immediately if the water temperature at the outlet reaches 50°C.
  • USB Ports (Elite version only): 2 ports, 5V each, current ≤1A total, for charging USB compatible devices with battery capacity not exceeding 1700 mAh.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: The appliance must only be used in an above-ground open-air situation with natural ventilation, without stagnant areas. Specific guidelines are provided for use within partial enclosures, ensuring adequate open wall area. It must not be used in caravans, tents, marine craft, cars, mobile homes, or similar enclosed locations due to carbon monoxide hazard.
  • Setup:
    • Requires a level, sturdy surface.
    • Water is supplied from a 5-gallon collapsible water carrier or other open water container (e.g., cooler), or can be connected to a garden hose. Water should be free of debris or sand.
    • The water pump connects to the water container and the heater's water inlet. The shower hose connects to the heater's water outlet.
    • A shower arm is included for holding the shower in place, with adjustable angle and height.
    • Propane gas cylinders are threaded into the regulator. Only specified Coleman disposable gas cylinders should be used.
  • Battery Charging: The battery should be charged for 6 hours before first use to maximize performance. Charging can be done via a 12 Volt auto recharger cord or a 240 Volt household recharger cord (Elite version only).
  • Lighting the Heater:
    • Ensure water supply, shower connection, pump connection, gas cylinder, and battery are ready.
    • Turn on the main power switch (Elite version only) and then the electrical system via the power button on the display panel. The pump starts and water flows before ignition.
    • Electronic ignition: Press and turn the control knob counter-clockwise to the "PILOT" position, then press and hold for 7-10 seconds until a clicking sound is heard and the pilot light indicator is lit.
    • Match lighting: If electronic ignition fails, a lit match can be inserted through the flame window to light the burner while pressing and holding the control knob.
    • Once the pilot light is lit, turn the control knob counter-clockwise to a setting between "MAX" and "MIN" for the desired water temperature. "MAX" setting can increase water temperature by about 30°C.
  • Shutting Off the Heater: Turn the control knob clockwise to the "OFF" position, then switch off the power button on the display panel, and finally turn off the main power switch (Elite version only).
  • Temporary Stop: To conserve gas, the main burner can be shut off by turning the control knob clockwise to the "PILOT" position. The pilot light, pump, and water flow will continue. To resume heating, turn the control knob counter-clockwise.
  • Shower Sprays (Elite version only): The shower head offers aerated, full, and fine sprays, adjustable by rotating a dial. The water flow can be shut off at the shower head, but this will trigger a "LOW WATER FLOW" warning and shut off the unit, requiring the shower head to be open before restarting.
  • USB Charging (Elite version only): Two USB ports are available for charging compatible devices when the main power switch is on.
  • Temperature Display (Elite version only): Current water temperature is shown on the display panel, switchable between Celsius and Fahrenheit by pressing the C/F button.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Clean the heater prior to first use and at least once a year, or when the hose becomes discolored with calcium buildup.
    • A cleaning cycle involves circulating a mixture of water and calcium, lime, and rust remover through the system for 2 minutes, followed by circulating clean water.
    • Clean the screen at the pump water inlet to remove residue.
  • Storage:
    • Remove the propane cylinder.
    • Drain all water from hoses and the unit by leaning the product towards the hose connection side and moving it left to right until drainage stops.
    • Recharge the battery before storing. Turn off the main power switch (Elite version only).
    • Store in a clean, dry location.
  • Battery Replacement: Use only Coleman replacement battery #1394551 (12 Volt, 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery). Involves removing the battery cover, unplugging the old battery, and connecting the new one, ensuring correct connector alignment.
  • Fuse Replacement: Use only Coleman replacement fuse #1394557 (current rating: 5A). Involves removing the screw from the fuse socket, discarding the old fuse, and replacing it with a new one.
  • Recharging Cords Replacement: Use only Coleman replacement recharging cord #1394553 (240V) or #1394554 (12VDC).
  • Pump Screen Cleaning: The pump screen can be cleaned by unscrewing the nozzle, separating the parts, pushing out the screen, cleaning it, and reassembling.

Safety Information:

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Only use in well-ventilated areas. Using in an enclosed space may cause death.
  • Explosion - Fire Hazard: Never store propane near heat or ignition sources. Propane is heavier than air and can accumulate in low places. Do not install or remove the propane tank while the heater is operating or hot. Maintain minimum clearances from combustible materials (600 mm sides, 1200 mm top).
  • Burn Hazard: Never leave unattended when hot or in use. Do not touch hot metal parts or venting holes. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Leak Check: Perform outdoors using soapy water (60-90 ml solution: 1 part dishwashing detergent, 3 parts water). Bubbles indicate a leak. Never use a flame to check for leaks.
  • Electrical Safety: Only recharge with the specified charger. Use only the designated battery pack. Do not use or charge damaged batteries. Do not expose batteries to fire or heat. Do not modify or repair the appliance, battery pack, or charger. Do not use an extension cord outdoors unless approved for local electrical requirements. Do not install in a bathroom.
  • General Safety: Do not refill disposable cylinders. Use the preset regulator. Do not alter the appliance or use non-approved parts. Always use in an upright position.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive guide is provided for various issues, including hot water warnings, tilt warnings, flames out, low battery, low water flow, burner not lighting, water leakage, and no display, with corresponding possible causes and solutions.
