The COLOP e-mark create is a handheld mobile printer designed for creative applications, allowing users to design, print, and make various imprints. It operates using a dedicated app and offers a wide range of features for customization and diverse printing needs.
Function Description:
The e-mark create is a compact, portable device that prints custom imprints onto various surfaces. It utilizes ink-jet technology with a tri-colour ink cartridge, adapted in cooperation with HP Inkjet Technology. The device connects wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi, allowing users to design imprints within the e-mark create app and then transmit them to the device for printing. It supports single, two, or three-line imprints and offers options for continual printing, making it versatile for different projects. The ink is water-based, and while not water-resistant on its own, its longevity on fabric can be improved by using COLOP e-mark endless labels textile (which are wash-resistant when ironed on) or by applying a fixation spray. For splash-proof results, COLOP e-mark endless labels in white glossy or transparent can be used.
Usage Features:
- Setup and Connection: To begin, users assemble the e-mark create according to the Quick Setup Guide. The device connects to the e-mark create app (available for Android 7.0+ and iOS 11+) via Wi-Fi. It's crucial to connect through the app itself, not via phone settings. The app guides users through language selection, Wi-Fi information acceptance, and entering the device's SSID and password.
- Designing Imprints: The app provides an editor where users can create new imprints from scratch (single, two, or three lines) or select from pre-made templates. Users can arrange and modify artwork, adjust the width of the canvas, and choose between center or lateral printing positions.
- Printing Process: Once a design is ready, it's sent to the e-mark create via the app. The device beeps to confirm receipt. Printing is initiated by swiping the device either left or right across the desired surface. A short beep indicates the imprint is complete.
- Multi-line Printing: For two or three-line imprints, the device beeps to guide the user on when to change direction and move to the next line, ensuring proper alignment.
- Continual Printing: This feature allows the e-mark create to print continuously as long as it is in motion. It's activated in the Imprint settings.
- Ribbon Guide: The COLOP e-mark Ribbon Guides are specialized tools for printing on COLOP e-mark Ribbons or endless labels. Users thread the ribbon/label through the guide, place the e-mark create in the middle, and slide the guide along with the device to print. Continual Marking should be activated for this.
- Positioning Imprints: Notches on both sides of the e-mark create help in precise positioning. The app allows users to select between lateral (starting after side markings) and center (starting from the middle) printing positions for better control.
- Printing Direction: The e-mark create can print in any direction. It supports left-to-right or right-to-left sliding. Rotating the device 90° enables vertical printing. With practice, users can even achieve slightly curved imprints.
- Ruler Tool: The COLOP e-mark Ruler is designed for precise printing on wristbands and uneven or small objects. It ensures exact positioning, straight imprints, and printing on edges. When using the ruler, the imprint's starting position should be set to "center," and only 1-line imprints are recommended.
- Surface Compatibility: The e-mark create can print directly on a wide variety of surfaces.
- Paper/Labels: Printer paper, cardstock (including glitter), chipboard, construction paper, parchment paper, mailing envelopes, label stickers, paper napkins, paper towels, crepe paper, tissue paper, poster board, printable photo paper, untreated gift bags, glassine treat bags, and kraft paper lunch bags.
- Wood: Untreated wood and raw wood.
- Fabric: Printed felt, glitter felt, craft felt, cotton fabric, knit fabric, canvas, polyester canvas fabric, untreated leather, cotton ribbon, sheer ribbon, glitter ribbon, velvet ribbon, and iridescent ribbon. Note that ink will wash out if laundered, and ink-jet fixatives can be used for longer-lasting prints.
- Miscellaneous: Cork, foam sheets (including glitter), painted walls, printable magnet sheets, and printable vinyl.
- Stone/Cement/Clay: Stone, cement, and unglazed ceramics.
- Sounds: The device uses beeps to communicate. A beep indicates successful imprint transmission or completion. For multi-line imprints, beeps signal when to change direction. Continuous beeping and a red blinking light warn that the device needs to be returned to its docking station to prevent the print head from drying out. Sounds can be turned off in the settings.
- Backup Functionality: The app allows users to create and import backup files, saving imprints, settings, and other data. This is useful for restoring data or transferring it to a new device.
Maintenance Features:
- Automatic Print Head Cleaning: The e-mark create automatically cleans its print head. The cleaning intensity increases with longer periods of inactivity. When removing the device from the docking station, holding it briefly in the air allows ink to disperse before printing on paper.
- Manual Print Head Cleaning (via App): If imprint quality deteriorates (smears, unclear colors), manual cleaning may be necessary. This can be initiated in the app settings by selecting "Start quick cleaning" and following the instructions. An active Wi-Fi connection is required.
- Manual Print Head and Docking Station Cleaning (Physical): For physical cleaning, a damp, lint-free cloth should be used. It's important to wipe from the top of the print head downwards to avoid color smears. All plastic parts can be cleaned with a moistened cloth. Only pure water should be used, without any cleaning agents.
- Ink Cartridge: The device uses a tri-colour ink cartridge. Only original COLOP e-mark cartridges should be used.
- Resetting the Device: If the SSID and password are forgotten, the device can be reset. With the mobile printer turned on, open the cover, locate a small hole near the battery, and press inside with a paper clip for several seconds. The device will restart to its initial state, and a print on blank paper will reveal the new SSID and password. Note that a reset deletes all stored imprints.
