Remote Boot and Operating System Installation
The Remote Boot and Operating System Installation feature
allows the Compaq Deskpro 4000N to be booted from a
network server that supports network server boots or from a
second computer connected through a null modem cable.
✎
The network service boot feature is usually used as a
first-time setup and configuration tool.
Among other functions, the network boot feature can be used to:
■
Install the F10 Setup partition.
■
Format a hard drive.
■
Install an operating system.
■
Install application software.
✎
After the operating system is installed, updates or
configuration changes must be initiated through a
software distribution application.
The remote boot feature is self-prompting and is initiated by
pressing F12 during POST.
Remote Security Management
Remote Security Management allows the system administrator
to safely set or modify security features on remote Compaq
Deskpro 4000 Personal Computers directly from the centralized
network management console. Enabling the system
administrator to perform these tasks remotely, on multiple
computers, results in consistent deployment of and greater
control over Deskpro 4000N security parameters over the
network. It also results in greater productivity and lower total
cost of ownership.
✎
Use of Remote Security Management requires an
established setup password.
