Becertaintoserviceenginewithgasolineandoilas instructedinthis
sectionbeforestartingor runningyourmachine.

FirstTime Use
1. Removeoil fill dipstick(G).SeeFigure13.
2. Withthe moweron levelground,emptyentirecontentsof oil bottle
providedintothe engineoil fill(H).
3. Replaceoil filldipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Use4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceedsthe requirementsfor
APIservicecategorySF,SG,SH,SJ orhigher.AlwayschecktheAPI
servicelabelon the oilcontainerto besure it includesthe lettersSF,
SG,SH,SJ or higher.
Outdoortemperaturesdeterminethe properoilviscosityforthe engine.
Usethechartto selectthebestviscosityfor theoutdoortemperature
rangeexpected.

1. Checkthe oil withtheenginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil filldipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertandtightenthe oilfilldipstick.Removeitto checktheoil
level.SeeFigure13.
4. Iftheoil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimitmarkonthedipstick,
removetheoil fill dipstick,andfill withthe recommendedoil to the
upperlimitmark(J). Donotoverfill.
5. Reinstallthe oilfilldipstick.
Gasoline
Donotuse unapprovedgasolines,suchasE85.Do notmixoil in
Igasolineor modifyengineto runonalternatefuels.Thiswill damage
_theenginecomponentsandvoid the engine warranty.
Fuelmustmeet these requirements:
• Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.

• A minimumof 87 octane/87AKI (91RON).
• Gasolinewith upto 10%ethanol(gasohol)isacceptable.
Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Ifthe engine
hasbeenrunning,allowittocool first.Neverrefueltheengineinsidea
buildingwheregasolinefumesmayreachflamesor sparks.
Gasolineis highlyflammableandexplosive,andyoucanbe
burnedor seriouslyinjuredwhenrefueling.Stopengineand keep
heat,sparks,and flameaway.Refuelonly outdoors.Wipe upspills
immediately.
ifyourequipmentwill be usedonan infrequentorintermittentbasis,
pleasereferto the Off SeasonStoragesectionfor additionalinforma-
tion regardingfueldeterioration.
NOTE:Fuelcandamagepaintand sometypesof plastic.Becareful
notto spill fuelwhenfilling yourfueltank.
Neverusestaleorcontaminatedgasolineoranoil/gasolinemixture.
Avoidgettingdirt orwaterin the fueltank.
1. Removethe fueltankcap.
2. Fillthe fueltankwithfuel.To allowforexpansionofthe fuel,do
notfill abovethe bottomofthe fueltankneck.Do notoverfill.
Wipeupspilledfuel beforestartingtheengine.
3. Installthefuel tankcapandtightenit until it clicks.
4. Movelawnmowerat least10feet awayfromthefuel container/
sourceandsitebeforestartingthe engine.
Besurenooneotherthan theoperatorisstandingnearthe lawn
mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrunengine
indoorsorin enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas.Engineexhaust
containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas.Keephands,
feet,hairand looseclothingawayfromany movingpartson engine
andlawnmower.
