Check Engine Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Besureoil levelis maintained.
1. Checkthe oil withtheenginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil filldipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertandtightendipstick.Removeitto checkthe oillevel.
4. Iftheoil levelisnearor belowthelowerlimitmarkonthe dipstick,
removetheoil fillercap/dipstick,andfillwiththe recommendedoil
tothe upperlimitmark.Do not overfill.
5. Reinstallthe oilfilldipstick.
Change Engine Oil
Gasolineand itsvaporsareextremelyflammableandexplosive.
Fireor explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Changeengineoil afterthefirst fivehoursof operation,andeveryfifty
hoursoronce a seasonthereafter.
lWhen draintheoil fromthe oil fill thefueltankmustbe
you top
tube,
emptyor fuelcanleak outand resultinafire or explosion.Toempty
thefuel tank,runthe engineuntilitstopsfromlackof fuel.
1. Withengineoff butstillwarm,disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
keepit awayfromthe sparkplug.
2. Placea suitablecontainernextto the enginetocatchthe usedoil.
3. Removethe oil filldipstickanddraintheoil intothecontainerby
tippingtheenginetowardthe oil fillerneck.See Figure17.
Usedoilisa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeofusedoil properly.
IDonotdiscardwithhouseholdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthori-
_tiesor SearsServiceCenterforsafedisposal/recyclingfacilities.
4. Withtheengineina levelposition,filltothe upperlimitmarkon the
dipstickwiththerecommendedoil.
Runningthe enginewitha lowoil levelcan causeenginedamage.
5. Reinstallthe oilfilldipsticksecurely.
Clean Engine
Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeof anycombustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducetheriskof overheat-
ingandignitionofaccumulateddebris.

LUBRICATION
Blade Control
Lubricatepivotpointsonthebladecontrolat leastoncea seasonwith
lightoil.Thiscontrolmustoperatefreelyinbothdirections.SeeFigure

Donot usewaterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor drycloth.
