Overview

The Daikin DAX Commercial Electric Air Handler is designed for 7.5 and 10-ton split systems, offering versatile installation and robust performance for commercial applications. This air handler can be configured for both upflow and horizontal (left side) installation, making it adaptable to various space requirements. It is suitable for both cooling-only and heat pump applications, providing flexibility in system design.

The unit is circuited for use with either one 7.5-ton or one 10-ton cooling-only or heat pump system. Additionally, it can be circuited for use with two 4-ton or two 5-ton cooling-only units, allowing for staged cooling or multi-zone applications. Each DAX unit is equipped with two thermal expansion valves (TXV Control), which are crucial for optimizing refrigerant flow and ensuring efficient operation across varying load conditions.

At the heart of the DAX air handler are two 5-speed direct-drive motors. These motors provide precise control over airflow, enabling the system to deliver optimal comfort and energy efficiency. The direct-drive design eliminates the need for belts, reducing maintenance requirements and potential points of failure. The coils are constructed with copper tubes and aluminum fins, a common and effective combination for heat transfer, ensuring reliable and efficient cooling and heating performance.

The DAX Commercial Electric Air Handler is AHRI Certified, indicating that its performance has been independently verified to meet industry standards. It is also ETL Listed, confirming compliance with North American safety standards. These certifications provide assurance of the unit's quality, safety, and performance.

The cabinet of the DAX air handler is built for durability and ease of maintenance. It features a heavy-gauge, reinforced, galvanized-steel construction, providing a robust enclosure that can withstand the rigors of commercial environments. The cabinet is fully insulated with a fiberglass blanket, which helps to minimize heat loss or gain, improving energy efficiency and reducing noise levels during operation.

For condensate management, the unit includes both horizontal and vertical condensate pans. This dual-pan design ensures effective drainage of condensation regardless of the installation orientation (upflow or horizontal), preventing water accumulation and potential damage. A built-in filter rack is provided, and a 2-inch filter is included with the unit, simplifying initial setup and ensuring basic air filtration from the start.

Maintenance and servicing are made easier with thoughtful design features. The unit includes entry points on the top panel for both low and high voltage wiring, streamlining electrical connections. Removable access panels are a key feature, allowing technicians quick and easy access to internal components for inspection, cleaning, and repairs, which helps to reduce service time and costs.

Optional electric heater kits are available for the DAX air handlers, ranging from 15 kW to 30 kW. These kits are field-installed accessories, providing supplemental heating capabilities when needed. The electrical characteristics of the air handler, electric heater kits, and the building's power supply must be compatible to ensure safe and proper operation. The unit does not come with factory-installed electric heat, emphasizing the modularity and customization options available.

Overall, the Daikin DAX Commercial Electric Air Handler is a versatile, efficient, and robust solution for commercial HVAC needs, designed with both performance and ease of maintenance in mind.
