auto
store

Replace
the
cap
start
the
engIne
and
allow
It
to
ron
untIl
warmed
up
About
15
rmnutes
should
be
enough

Stop
the
engIne
and
allow
It
to
cool
thoroughly
before
attemptIng
to
remove
the
radIator
cap

When
suffiCIently
cooled
down
agaIn
open
the
petcock
and
remove
the
radIator
cap
allOWIng
the
sys
tem to
draIn
RemOVIng
the
lower
radIator
hose
at
the
radIator
Will
help
In
draImng
the
engIne
block

When
the
coolIng
system
IS
com
pletely
draIned
close
the
radIator
petcock
and
attach
the
lower
hose
If
removed
Refill
the
system
With
fresh
coolant
In
at
least
a
50 50
solutIon
of
water
mIxed
With
the
new
coolant

Start
the
engIne
and allow
It
to
warm
up
and
Circulate
the
coolant
to
elmunate
any
air
pockets
m
the
system

Check
the
coolant
level
add
cool
ant
to
the
system
agaIn
as
needed
and
wash
off
the
radIator
cap
and
seat
In
the
radiator
filler
neck
Remstall
the
cap
and
check
the
sys
tem
for
leaks

REPLACEMENT
Thermostat
replacement
takes
about
half
an
hour
The
thermostat
IS
a
key
part
of
the
coolIng
system
because
It
regulates
coolant cIrculatIon

radiator
cap
and

A
thermostat
that
stIcks
open
causes
slow
engme
warm
up
poor
hea
ter
operatIon
and
may
prevent
emISSIon
systems
from
operatmg
properly
A
thermostat
that
stIcks
closed

cause
engIne
overheatIng
If
you
suspect
you
have
a
thermostat
problem
replaCIng
the old
one
IS
a
sIm
ple
task
But
before
you
replace
the
thermostat
check
for
broken
or
dam
aged
hoses
Inspect
the
radiator
for
proper
coolant
level
or
loose
radiator
cap
and
check
for
coolant
leaks
or
other
damage
If
all
these
checks
prove
OK
replace
the
thermostat
as
follows

the

cool

hot
Open
the
radIator
petcock
and
draIn
the
coolant
Into
a
clean
pan
The
petcock
IS
located
at
the
bot
tom
of
the
radIator
