Inselectregions,anoptionalsatellitemoduleisoffered
thatisacompaniontothemodulartelematicsgateway
(MTG).JDLink™satellitemodulehardwarelookslike
MTGhardware,butcontainsasatellitemodem.Satellite
modemallowsMTGtotransferdatatoandfromJDLink™
hostserveroverasatelliteconnectionwhenavalid
cellularorwirelessnetworkisunavailable.
AftersatellitemoduleisinstalledwithMTG,satellite
servicemustbeactivatedforsatellitemoduleto
communicateoversatellitenetwork.
SatelliteCommunication
Scheduledcallfrequencydefaultstoonecallperday
whenusingsatellitemodule.Thisfrequencycanbe
changedtoonetimeperweekonwebsite.
AslongasMTGhascellularcoverage,satellitemoduleis
notused.TheMTGattemptstocallusinglastsuccessful
method(cellularorsatellitesignal).Ifmachinemoves
intoanareaofweakornocellularcoverage,MTG
cannotcompleteacall.JDLink™websiteshowsthat
machinemissedacall.Onehourafterthefailedcall,
MTGescalatescalltosatellitemodule.
IfMTGissetforadailycallin,completesacall,andmoves
outofcellularcoveragewithnoredalertsorimmediate
callsrequired,thenextcallattemptisin24hours.Itcan
take25hrbeforemessageisreceivedorsenttomachine.
Callsoversatellitesignalaremarkedwithasatelliteicon
onJDLink™website.Machinemusthaveaclearviewof
theskytoconnecttosatellitenetwork.
AlertMessageswithSatellite
Alltelematicsmessageshavearoutingclassandpriority
thatdeterminewhethertheyaresentimmediatelyorwith
thenextcallattempt.Thereisspeciallogictodetermine
whethermessagesaresentusingMTGorsatellitemodule
ifinitialcellularcallfailed.

Redalertsaresentimmediately.

YellowandInformationalalertsareatleast2hrold
beforebeingsentwiththenextscheduledcall,orwitha
website-initiatedcallorrequesttomachine.

Securityalerts,suchasgeofenceandcurfew,depend
onuser-definedwebsitesettings.

Requestssentfromwebsitetomachineareretrieved
withinabout5minutes.Ifrequestwasthefirst
communicationwithamachineafterleavinganareaof
cellularcoverage,requestscantakeupto1hour.
Somelimitationsexistwhenusingsatellitemodule.
Applicationsthatrequireanuninterruptedcellular
connectionarenotsupported.Forexample,Service
ADVISOR™Remote,JohnDeereRemoteDisplay
Access,JohnDeereWirelessDataTransfer,andJohn
DeereMachineSyncshareddataarenotsupporteddue
tothesatelliteconnection’slimitedcapacityandlatency.
