3. Press and hold the power button.
4. Release the power button.
5. Hold the display built-in self test button until the test starts.
Diagnostics
Power status light: Indicates the power status.
The following table shows the power LED states:

Power LED state Description
Off System is in the off state
Solid Amber System fault during pre-POST, but power supply is good (S0)
Blinking Amber System fault during pre-POST indicating a bad or missing PSU
rail
Solid White System is in BIOS and may be fully functional depending on
the state of the remaining diagnostic LEDs
For example, the power status light blinks amber two times followed by a pause, and then blinks white three times followed by a
pause. This 2,3 pattern continues until the computer is turned off indicating No memory/RAM detected.
The following table shows different light patterns and what they indicate:

Light pattern Problem description
1,2 Unrecoverable SPI flash failure
2,1 CPU failure
2,2 System board failure, corrupt BIOS, ROM error
2,3 No memory/RAM detected
2,4 Memory or RAM failure
2,5 Invalid memory installed
2,6 System board error, chipset error, clock failure, gate
A20 failure, keyboard controller failure
2,7 Display failure
3,1 CMOS battery failure
3,2 PCIe or video card/chip failure
3,3 BIOS recovery image not found
3,4 BIOS recovery image found but invalid
3,5 Power rail failure
3,6 Paid SPI volume error
3,7 Intel ME (Management Engine) error
Recovering the operating system
When your computer is unable to boot to the operating system even after repeated attempts, it automatically starts Dell
SupportAssist OS Recovery.
