Overview

The Dogtra YS600 No Bark Collar is an ultra-compact device designed to help train and educate dogs in a humane manner by deterring excessive barking. It utilizes a combination of vibration and stimulation to correct barking behavior, offering a range of intensity levels to suit individual dog reactions. The device is equipped with an accelerometer bark sensor to accurately detect barking and activate the appropriate correction.

Function Description

The primary function of the YS600 is to provide an automatic correction when a dog barks, thereby discouraging unwanted vocalization. The device offers two main operating modes: High Performance Pager (HPP) Vibration and Stimulation.

In HPP Vibration mode, indicated by setting the On/Off & Stimulation Dial to "P," the collar will vibrate twice when your dog barks, without applying any static stimulation. This mode is ideal for dogs that respond well to gentler corrections or as an initial training step.

For more persistent barking, the YS600 offers 10 Stimulation Levels, ranging from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest). When set to any of these levels, the device will first vibrate once, followed by a static stimulation, upon detecting a bark. This two-step correction aims to provide a clear and consistent deterrent. There is a 15-second safety delay between subsequent stimulations on levels 1-10 and vibrations on P mode, preventing over-correction.

The device also includes a Test Mode, accessed by setting the dial to "T." In this mode, the sensor's sensitivity is increased to allow for easy activation, and the unit will only produce a vibration, enabling users to verify its proper functioning.

A Persistent Bark Indicator is a useful feature that activates when the unit is turned off. If there has been no excessive barking, the LED will glow red for 2 seconds. If excessive barking has occurred, the LED will blink green for 10 seconds, indicating that the stimulation level might be too low or that the collar's fit needs adjustment.

The YS600 is powered by 2-hour rapid charge lithium polymer batteries, ensuring quick recharging and reliable operation. It is IPX9K waterproof certified, making it suitable for use in various weather conditions and environments. The device is designed for dogs as small as 35 lbs.

Usage Features

The YS600 is designed for straightforward operation. The On/Off & Stimulation Dial serves multiple purposes:

  • Turning the unit off: Set the dial to "."
  • Activating HPP Vibration mode: Set the dial to "P."
  • Selecting stimulation levels: Choose from levels 1 through 10.
  • Entering Test Mode: Set the dial to "T."

When first using the collar, it is recommended to start at the lowest stimulation level (1) and gradually increase it if your dog continues to bark. Close observation of your dog's reaction is crucial to finding the appropriate stimulation level. Responses can be subtle, such as neck movement, head shaking, or looking over its shoulder.

Proper fitting of the receiver is essential for effective and humane operation. The medical-grade stainless steel contact points should press firmly against the dog's skin, with enough space to fit two fingers underneath the collar strap. The ideal placement is on either side of the dog's windpipe. An improper fit, where the receiver is too loose, can lead to inconsistent contact, skin irritation from rubbing, and ineffective corrections. Dogtra uses anti-microbial plastic in its design to further protect the dog's skin.

It is important to regularly reposition the receiver on the dog's neck if worn for extended periods (more than 8 hours) to prevent skin irritation. The receiver should be removed after 8 hours of usage, and the dog's neck should be checked for any signs of irritation each time the unit is used.

The LED indicator provides visual feedback on the unit's status and battery life. It flashes for 1 second upon power-on and every 4 seconds thereafter. To conserve battery life, the YS600 enters a sleep mode after 30 seconds of no barking, with the LED turning off. It reactivates upon detecting a bark. The LED also indicates battery status: green for fully charged, amber for low battery, and blinking red when recharging is needed. During charging, the LED glows red until fully charged, then turns green.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the YS600 ensures its longevity and optimal performance.

Basic Maintenance:

After each training session, it is important to ensure the rubber charging cap is securely in place to maintain the unit's waterproof integrity. Users should carefully inspect the unit for any missing parts or damage to the casing, as damage can compromise the waterproof guarantee. After confirming no damage, the receiver should be rinsed and cleaned of any dirt or debris.

Storage Maintenance:

For extended storage periods, the YS600 should be fully charged. While in storage, it is recommended to give the unit a full charge once a month and always before its first use after storage. The units should be stored at room temperature and not exposed to extreme climates, which could affect battery life and overall performance.

Charging the Battery:

The YS600 uses a lithium polymer battery. The charging process involves opening the rubber plug on the battery charging receptacle and plugging in the charging cable. The charger can be connected to a 120-volt wall outlet or a cigarette lighter for auto charging. Indicator lights will glow red during charging and turn green when fully charged, which typically takes 2 hours. The unit automatically shuts off during charging. It is crucial to use only Dogtra-approved batteries, chargers, and accessories to prevent damage. Upon receiving the system, a full 2-hour initial charge is recommended before first use, away from flammable substances. When not in use, the charger should be disconnected from the power source.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues. If the dog is not reacting to the receiver, users should check if the unit is turned on, if the strap is tight enough for proper contact, if the contact points are long enough for the dog's coat, and if the intensity level is sufficient. For issues with the unit not holding a charge, users are advised to check the charger, splitter, and charging port for proper function and damage, particularly the metal charging pin. Cleaning the charging port with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol is also suggested, especially after exposure to salt-water, followed by rinsing with clean water. For persistent issues, Dogtra customer service can be contacted via email or phone.
