This document is an operating manual for Dometic ACX series absorber coolers, specifically models ACX35, ACX40, and ACX40G.
Function Description
The Dometic ACX series coolers are portable absorber coolers designed for cooling foodstuffs. They can operate on three different energy sources: DC power (battery mode), AC power (mains electricity), and gas (propane or butane). The ACX35 and ACX40 models can connect to an external gas supply, while the ACX40G model uses self-sealing CAMPINGAZ CP250 gas cartridges. These coolers are suitable for camping and can be used outdoors when operating on gas, or in enclosed spaces when operating on electricity.

Usage Features
Installation and Placement:
- The cooler should be placed on a firm, level surface.
- Ensure sufficient ventilation: maintain at least 30 cm clearance above, 10 cm behind, and 4 cm on the sides (fig. 1, page 3).
- The cooler should not be tilted by more than 3° to ensure proper refrigerant circulation.
- Avoid placing the cooler near naked flames or other heat sources (heaters, direct sunlight, gas ovens).
- When operating with gas, the cooler must only be used outdoors in a sufficiently ventilated area.
Operation Modes:
- DC Mode: Plug the DC connection cable into the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. Cooling level cannot be adjusted in this mode. Disconnect the cable to switch off.
- AC Mode: Plug the AC connection cable into the AC mains. The cooling level can be adjusted using the cooling level controller (1, fig. 3, page 5) from position "0" (off) to "7" (maximum).
- Gas Mode (ACX35/ACX40 with external supply): Connect the cooler to an approved gas cylinder using a DIN-DVGW-approved pressure regulator and suitable hose lines (DIN 4815, part 2, max 1.5 m length). Ensure all connections are leak-free using leak spray. The temperature controller (2, fig. 3, page 5) is used to set the cooling level and ignite the flame using the ignition button (3, fig. 3, page 5).
- Gas Mode (ACX40G with gas cartridge): Push a self-sealing CAMPINGAZ CP250 gas cartridge into the port (fig. 5, page 6). Follow the same temperature control and ignition procedure as for external gas supply.
Energy Saving Tips:
- Choose a well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight.
- Allow warm food to cool before placing it in the cooler.
- Avoid opening the cooling device more often or for longer than necessary.
Safety Instructions:
- Never open the absorber unit as it is under high pressure.
- Do not operate if visibly damaged.
- Power cables must be replaced by the manufacturer or qualified personnel if damaged.
- Repairs should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
- Children aged 8 years and over, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, or lack of experience and knowledge, can use the cooler under supervision and after being taught safe use.
- Do not store explosive substances in the cooler.
- Disconnect from electricity and gas supplies before cleaning or maintenance.
- Do not open the refrigerant circuit.
- Ensure the voltage specification on the type plate matches the power supply.
- Use only supplied cables for AC connection.
- Do not pull plugs by the connection cable.
- Do not fill the inner container with ice or fluid.
- Never immerse the cooler in water.
- Protect the cooler and cable from heat and moisture.
- When using gas, ensure the area is sufficiently ventilated to prevent suffocation.
- Do not operate the device in unventilated areas such as tents, motor vehicles, or truck cabs.
- Keep flammable objects away from the burner.
- Only use propane or butane gas (not natural gas).
- Never use a naked flame to check for leaks.
- In case of gas smell, close gas supply, do not press electric switches, extinguish naked flames, and have the system checked by a specialist.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning:
- Always disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning.
- Clean the interior and exterior with a damp cloth.
- Do not clean under running water or in a dishwasher.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or hard objects.
- Ensure air inlet and outlet vents are free of dust and dirt to allow heat release and prevent damage.
Defrosting:
- Defrost the cooler when the frost layer on the cooling fins is about 3 mm thick.
- Disconnect voltage and gas supply.
- Empty the cooler.
- Place a cloth in the refrigerator compartment to absorb excess water.
- Leave the lid open.
- Wipe the refrigerator compartments dry with a cloth.
- Never use mechanical tools to remove ice or loosen stuck objects.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues, including:
- Cooler not working (general, DC mode, AC mode, gas mode).
- Cooler not starting after a long period of inactivity (suggests turning it upside down for five minutes).
- Issues with gas supply, electrical connections, or ventilation.
- Recommendations for checking gas supply, fuses, and ensuring proper setup.
