Other potential causes include a broken drive shaft or sheared shaft key, a blocked fluid intake pipe, air leaks at the intake, a low oil level, or vanes stuck in rotor slots. Check each of these possibilities, and take corrective actions such as replacing damaged parts or adding new fluid of the proper viscosity.

A partially clogged intake strainer or restricted intake pipe, a defective bearing, an air leak at the pump intake piping joints or pump shaft seal, or coupling misalignment could be the cause. To troubleshoot, drain the system and clean the intake pipe, and clean or replace the strainer. Also, test for air leaks by pouring oil on joints and around the drive shaft and listen for a change in operation. If there is a defective bearing, disassemble the pump and replace it. Re-align shafts to fix coupling misalignment.
