Do you have a question about the ebm-papst S1G305-DA02-07 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document outlines the operating instructions for the S1G305-DA02-07 device, an energy-saving motor/fan manufactured by ebm-papst Mulfingen GmbH & Co. KG.

Function Description

The device is designed exclusively as a built-in component for conveying air according to its technical specifications. It operates as an energy-saving motor/fan, primarily for air movement in stationary systems. The fan is equipped with integrated protective functions that automatically switch off the motor in case of faults such as a rotor position detection error or a blocked rotor. In the event of a blockage, an automatic restart follows once the obstruction is removed.

Usage Features

  • Intended Use: The device is to be used in stationary systems only, for conveying air within an ambient air pressure range of 800 mbar to 1050 mbar, and within the permitted ambient temperature range (-40 °C to 40 °C). All maintenance work must be performed, and the device must be operated with all protective devices in place, following the operating instructions.
  • Mechanical Connection: The fan is a built-in component and must be installed securely, ensuring no force or excessive vibration from the installation. If connected to air ducts, the connection should be isolated from vibration using compensators or similar elements. Fastening screws should be secured against unintentional loosening (e.g., with self-locking screws) and have a strength class of 8.8.
  • Electrical Connection: The device must only be connected to circuits that can be switched off with an all-pole disconnection switch. Before connecting, verify that the nameplate information matches the connection data and that the power supply matches the device voltage. Only use cables designed for the current level indicated on the nameplate, with a minimum cross-section of AWG 26 / 0.13 mm² and rated for 105 °C. The protective earth must have a cross-section equal to or greater than the phase conductor. Cables should always be routed downward to prevent condensation from running towards the motor. Reactive currents, typically less than 50 mA, may be measured in the supply line even when the motor is at a standstill due to the integrated EMC filter. The effective power in this operational readiness state is typically less than 2 W. The starting current (LRA) is equal to or less than the nominal current (FLA) due to locked-rotor protection.
  • Plug Connection: Cables, including the customer interface, must conform to internal wiring specifications and applicable standards. The built-in connector should be properly engaged with the mating connector.
  • Switching On/Off: The device should only be switched on after proper installation and electrical hookup, and after checking for visible external damage and functional protective devices. Apply the nominal supply voltage and start the device by changing the input signal. To switch off, disconnect the device from the power supply at the supply line's main switch.
  • Safety: Always observe local industrial safety regulations. Do not modify, add to, or convert the device without ebm-papst approval. Regularly check electrical equipment and replace loose connections or defective cables immediately. When working on an electrically charged device, stand on a rubber mat. Wait five minutes after disconnecting voltage at all poles before opening the device. Do not touch the rotor and impeller once installed. If control voltage or a stored speed set value is applied, the motor may restart automatically after a power failure; keep out of the danger zone and ensure the line voltage cannot be switched back on. The device is a built-in component, and the owner is responsible for ensuring adequate safeguarding with a fixed protective device and guard grill. Stop the device immediately if a protective device is missing or ineffective. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewelry near rotating parts and protect long hair with a cap. Protect operating personnel with appropriate safety equipment such as hearing protection, especially if the sound pressure level exceeds 70 dB(A). Ensure sufficient protection against accidental contact with hot surfaces.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Regular checks for proper operation and soiling are necessary to ensure a long service life. The frequency of checks should be adapted to the degree of soiling. Only clean the fan when it is not in motion, by switching it off via the control input to prevent accidental startup. Dry cleaning, such as using compressed air, is the preferred method. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, water jets, high-pressure cleaners, or pointed/sharp-edged objects. Completely remove any cleaning agents used. If severe corrosion is visible on load-bearing or rotating parts, switch off and replace the device immediately; repair of such parts is not permitted. Operate the fan for 2 hours at maximum speed after cleaning to evaporate any ingressed water. If cleaning does not eliminate vibrations, rebalancing may be necessary (contact ebm-papst).
  • Safety Inspection: Regular visual inspections (at least every 6 months) are recommended for contact protection cover, device damage (blades, housing), cable fastenings, cable insulation, welds for crack formation, and abnormal bearing noise. Actions include repair or replacement of the device, fastening cables, and replacing cables or the device as needed.
  • Malfunctions and Remedies:
    • Impeller not running smoothly: Possible cause is imbalance in rotating parts. Remedy: Clean the device; replace if imbalance persists after cleaning. Ensure no weight clips are removed during cleaning.
    • Motor not turning: Possible cause is mechanical blockage or faulty line voltage/connection. Remedy: Switch off, isolate from supply, remove blockage. Check line voltage, restore power, apply control signal. Isolate from supply, correct connection per diagram.
    • Motor/electronics overtemperature: Possible cause is deficient cooling, ambient temperature too high, or impermissible point of operation. Remedy: Improve cooling, reduce ambient temperature, correct operating point. To reset error message, switch off line voltage for at least 25 seconds, then switch on again.
  • Storage: Store the device, partially or fully assembled, in a dry, clean environment, protected against weather, vibration, environmental effects, and dirt until final installation. Storage should not exceed one year to guarantee trouble-free operation and service life. If the device is out of use for some time, switch it on for at least two hours to evaporate condensation and move bearings.
  • Disposal: Disassembly should be performed or supervised by qualified personnel. The product components, primarily steel, copper, aluminum, and plastic, are largely recyclable. Separate components into categories: steel and iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metal (e.g., motor windings), plastics (especially with brominated flame retardants), insulating materials, cables and wires, and electronic scrap (e.g., circuit boards). Ferrite magnets (not rare earth magnets) can be disposed of like normal iron and steel. Electrical insulating materials in the product, cables, and wires are treated similarly. Always observe country-specific legal regulations for product and waste disposal. Contact ebm-papst for any disposal questions.
