Usage Features

Safety and Protection:

  • Hazard Levels: Warnings are categorized as DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION to indicate varying levels of risk.
  • Staff Qualifications: Only suitably qualified, trained, and authorized technical staff should transport, unpack, install, operate, and maintain the device.
  • Basic Safety Rules: The device is a built-in component, and the owner is responsible for adequate safeguarding, including fixed protective devices and guard grills. Modifications without ebm-papst approval are prohibited.
  • Electrical Safety: The device is electrically charged, and live terminals/connections can be present even when switched off. A five-minute waiting period after disconnection from all poles is required before opening. It is crucial to always connect protective earth first and ensure proper insulation.
  • Mechanical Movement: The rotating impeller poses a risk of injury. The device must be secured against accidental contact, and all parts must come to a standstill before working on the system. Loose clothing, jewelry, and long hair should be protected.
  • Emissions: Depending on operating conditions, sound pressure levels may exceed 70 dB(A), requiring appropriate safety measures and hearing protection.
  • Hot Surface: The electronics housing can become hot, requiring protection against accidental contact.
  • Transport: The fan should be transported carefully in its original packaging to prevent bearing damage or impeller deformation.
  • Storage: Store in a dry, vibration-free, clean environment in original packaging, protected from weather and dirt. Storage for no longer than one year is recommended for optimal service life. Devices should be started and operated at full speed periodically (every four months for one hour in dry environments, or monthly for three hours in damp environments) to move bearings and evaporate condensate.

Installation and Connection:

  • Mechanical Connection: Remove the device carefully from packaging, avoiding shocks. Wear safety shoes and cut-resistant gloves. The fan must not be subjected to excessive force or vibration. If connected to air ducts, use compensators for vibration isolation. Ensure stress-free attachment to the substructure.
  • Electrical Connection: The fan is a built-in component without a disconnecting switch; connect to circuits that can be switched off with an all-pole disconnection switch. Control lines should be routed separately from the supply line with at least 10 cm clearance. Prevent water ingress into cables. Use AC/DC-sensitive residual current devices (type B or B+) if required, with a trip threshold of 300 mA and delayed tripping.
  • Terminal Box Connection: Strip cables only as far as necessary to ensure a sealed cable gland and no strain on connections. Use a trapezoid crimp for flexible control and relay cables from 1.0 mm² cross-section. Connect cables to terminals, ensuring proper engagement and strain relief. Ensure separate routing of supply cables and control/status cables. Connect protective earth first.

Operation:

  • Switching On: Only switch on after proper installation, electrical hookup, and verification of protective devices. Check for foreign matter in air flow paths.
  • Switching Off: Switch off via the control input. Avoid switching the motor on/off via power supply in cyclic operation. For maintenance, disconnect from the power supply, ensuring the ground connection is disconnected last.
  • Speed Range Suppression: The integrated vibration sensor can identify and block out speed ranges with excessive vibration velocities to prevent damage and shorten service life.

Integrated Protective Features: The device includes automatic shutdown in case of:

  • Rotor Position Detection Error: Automatic restart follows.
  • Blocked Rotor: Motor restarts automatically after blockage is removed.
  • Line Undervoltage: Motor restarts automatically when line voltage returns to permitted values.
  • Phase Failure: Motor restarts automatically after 10-40 seconds when all phases are correctly supplied again.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Repairs: Do not perform repairs; send the device to ebm-papst for repair or replacement.
  • Safety Inspection: Regularly check the contact protection cover, device for damage (blades, housing), cable fastening, cable insulation, impeller for wear/deposits/corrosion, cable gland tightness, and condensation drainage holes.
  • Vibration Testing: If the integrated vibration sensor is not used, perform a manual vibration test every 6 months across the entire speed range. Max. vibration severity should be 3.5 mm/s.
  • Cleaning: Regularly check for proper operation and soiling. Clean only when not in motion, using dry cleaning methods like compressed air. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, high-pressure cleaners, or pointed objects. If cleaning doesn't eliminate vibrations, rebalancing may be necessary.
  • Bearing Lifetime: The fan is equipped with maintenance-free ball bearings designed for a service life of 40,000 hours. If replacement is needed after this period, contact ebm-papst.

Troubleshooting (Malfunctions, Possible Causes, and Remedies): The device provides warning/status codes via an LED (green: good, orange: warning, red: error) with flash codes at 2 Hz.

  • Impeller Not Running Smoothly:
    • Imbalance in rotating parts: Clean the device; replace if imbalance persists. Ensure no weight clips are removed.
  • Audible Grinding or Scraping Noise:
    • Impeller grinds on inlet ring: Align inlet ring centrally with the impeller.
  • Motor Not Turning:
