What to do if power is on, fans are running, but there is no display on my ECS Motherboard?

      Bryan PachecoAug 2, 2025
First, ensure that your monitor is turned on and properly connected to your PC. Next, check if the VGA adapter card (if you're using one) is correctly inserted. Also, listen for beep sounds; if you're using an internal PC speaker, ensure it's connected. Continuous 3 short beeps indicate memory not detected, while 1 long beep and 8 short beeps suggest the VGA is not detected.

Why does my ECS Z97 MACHINE Motherboard PC suddenly shut down while booting up?
    • J

The CPU may be overheating. Apply thermal grease onto the CPU heatsink and ensure the CPU fan is well-connected with the CPU heatsink. Check if the CPU fan is working properly while the system is running. You can also try disabling the Smartfan function in the BIOS settings to let the fan run at its default speed. Loading Optimized Defaults in the BIOS will also disable Smartfan.

Try these steps: 1. Clear the CMOS values using the CLR_CMOS jumper. 2. Load Optimized Defaults in the BIOS setup. 3. Check the CPU cooler fan for dust, as long-term accumulation can reduce its effectiveness. Clean or replace the cooler if necessary. 4. Ensure that the 12V power & ATX connectors are fully inserted into the motherboard connectors and the latches are locked. 5. Remove the hard drive, optical drive, or DDR memory to identify if any of these components are faulty. 6. Check for any bulged electrolytic capacitors or abnormal components.

How to fix an ECS Z97 MACHINE when it does not power up and the fans are not running?
    • K
      Kristen EricksonNov 8, 2025
To troubleshoot, disassemble the PC, removing the VGA adapter card, DDR memory, LAN, USB, and other peripherals, including the keyboard and mouse. Leave only the motherboard, CPU with CPU cooler, and power supply connected. Ensure the power cord is plugged into the wall socket and the switch on the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is turned “on.” Turn it on again to see if the CPU and power supply fans are running. Also, make sure to remove any unused screws or other metal objects from inside the PC case to prevent short circuits. Check that the CPU FAN connector and the 12V power connector are connected to the motherboard. Ensure that the 12V power & ATX connectors are fully inserted into the motherboard connectors and the latches are locked. For Intel platforms, inspect the pins on the CPU socket...
