Overview

This document is a user manual for an Electrolux Fridge-Freezer, model ENN28600. It provides comprehensive instructions for safe operation, daily use, maintenance, and installation of the appliance.

The Electrolux Fridge-Freezer is designed for storing foodstuffs and beverages in a normal household setting. It features a refrigerator compartment and a freezer compartment. The refrigerator compartment automatically defrosts, with the defrost water draining into a special container at the back of the appliance where it evaporates. The freezer compartment is a "no frost" type, meaning there is no buildup of frost on the internal walls or food, due to continuous circulation of cold air driven by an automatically controlled fan.

Usage Features:

The appliance is controlled via a panel that includes a Pilot Light, Temperature Regulator, Action Freeze light, and Action Freeze switch.

  • Switching On/Off: To switch on, insert the plug and turn the Temperature Regulator clockwise to a medium setting; the Pilot Light will illuminate. To switch off, turn the regulator to the "O" position, and the Pilot Light will switch off.
  • Temperature Regulation: The temperature is automatically regulated. Users can adjust the coldness by turning the Temperature Regulator: lower settings for minimum coldness, higher settings for maximum coldness. A medium setting is generally recommended, but the exact setting depends on room temperature, door opening frequency, quantity of food stored, and appliance location.
  • Action Freeze Function: This function is activated by pressing the Action Freeze switch, which illuminates the Action Freeze light. It's recommended to activate this function at least 24 hours before placing fresh food in the freezer. The function automatically stops after 52 hours but can be deactivated manually at any time by pressing the switch again.
  • Freezing Fresh Food: The freezer compartment is suitable for freezing fresh food and long-term storage of frozen food. Fresh food should be placed in the bottom compartment after activating the Action Freeze function. The freezing process takes 24 hours, during which no other food should be added.
  • Storage of Frozen Food: When starting up or after a period of disuse, the appliance should run for at least 2 hours on higher settings before products are placed in the compartment. In case of accidental defrosting due to a power failure, if the power has been off longer than the "rising time" specified in the technical characteristics, defrosted food must be consumed quickly or cooked immediately and then re-frozen (after cooling).
  • Thawing: Deep-frozen or frozen food can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature. Small pieces can be cooked directly from frozen, though cooking time will be longer.
  • Ice-cube Production: The appliance includes trays for ice-cube production. Fill them with water and place them in the freezer compartment. Metallic instruments should not be used to remove trays.
  • Fresh Food Refrigeration: To optimize performance, avoid storing warm food or evaporating liquids. Food should be covered or wrapped, especially if it has a strong flavor, and positioned to allow free air circulation.
  • Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls have runners, allowing shelves to be positioned as desired. Front half-shelves can be placed over rear ones for better space utilization.
  • Positioning Door Shelves: Door shelves can be adjusted to different heights to accommodate various package sizes. To adjust, pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows until it comes free, then reposition.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's longevity and efficient operation.

  • Cleaning the Interior: Before first use and periodically, the interior and all internal accessories should be washed with lukewarm water and a neutral soap to remove odors and keep them clean. Do not use detergents, abrasive powders, highly perfumed cleaning products, or wax polishes, as these can damage surfaces and leave strong odors.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: The outer casing should only be cleaned with warm water and a little washing-up liquid. Many proprietary kitchen surface cleaners contain chemicals that can damage the plastics used in the appliance.
  • Cleaning the Condenser and Compressor: The condenser (black grill) and compressor at the back of the appliance should be cleaned with a brush or vacuum cleaner to improve performance and save electricity. Care must be taken not to damage the cooling system.
  • Door Seals: Regularly check and wipe door seals clean to ensure they are free from debris and maintain a tight seal.
  • Defrost Water Drain: The defrost water drain hole in the refrigerator compartment channel should be periodically cleaned to prevent water overflow. A special cleaner is provided for this purpose.
  • Replacing the Bulb: If the interior light bulb needs replacement, the circuit must be broken first. Press the rear hook and slide the cover, then replace the bulb with one of the same power (indicated on the bulb cover). Replace the light cover, reconnect the appliance, and check if the light comes on.
  • Periods of Non-Operation: For long periods of non-use, disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply, remove all food, defrost and clean the appliance and accessories, and leave the door(s) ajar to prevent unpleasant smells. If the cabinet remains on, periodic checks are recommended to prevent food spoilage in case of a power failure.

Safety Information:

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • General Safety: Keep ventilation openings clear. Do not use mechanical devices or artificial means to speed up thawing. Avoid using other electrical appliances inside unless approved by the manufacturer. Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. The refrigerant (isobutane R600a) is flammable, so avoid open flames and ensure thorough ventilation if the circuit is damaged. Do not alter specifications or modify the product.
  • Electrical Connection: All electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician. The appliance must be earthed. Ensure the power cord is not lengthened, squashed, or damaged. The mains plug must be accessible and securely inserted into the socket. Do not operate without the lamp cover.
  • Handling: The appliance is heavy and care should be taken when moving it. Avoid touching frozen items with damp/wet hands to prevent skin abrasions or frost/freezer burns. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Food Safety: Do not place hot pots on plastic parts. Do not store flammable gas or liquid. Do not place food directly against the rear air outlet. Do not re-freeze thawed food. Store pre-packed frozen food according to manufacturer instructions. Do not place carbonated drinks in the freezer. Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed directly.
  • Children and Vulnerable People: The appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, unless supervised. Children should be supervised and prevented from playing with the appliance. Packaging should be kept away from children. When discarding the appliance, pull the plug, cut the cable, and remove the door to prevent entrapment or electric shock. If replacing an older appliance with a spring lock, make it unusable.
