Risks through extreme stress on test tubes
Risks from products, chemicals and extreme ambient conditions
Caution! Damage to device through overloaded tubes
→ Keep within the limits specified by the tube manufacturers for the loading of tubes.
→ Tubes may only be centrifuged at the preselected g-force (rcf) if they are approved
for this application by the manufacturer.
Caution! Damage to device through damaged tubes
Damaged tubes must not be centrifuged: if tubes break/burst open, there may be
further damage to the device and accessories besides loss of the sample.
→ Before centrifugation, all tubes should be visually inspected for material damage.
Caution! Damage to device through open tube lids
The lids of tubes which are not closed may rip off during centrifugation and bend or
tear rotor lids made of plastic. Damage to the centrifuge is also possible.
→ Before centrifugation close all tube lids carefully.
Caution! Damage to plastic tubes from organic solvents
When using organic solvents (e.g. phenol, chloroform), the strength of plastic tubes
may be impaired so that tubes may break/burst open during centrifugation.
→ Before centrifugation check the condition of all plastic tubes.
Risk! Harm to health from contact with toxic liquids and pathogenic
microorganisms
→ When handling toxic liquids or pathogenic microorganisms belonging to risk
group II (see World Health Organization: Laboratory Biosafety Manual), make sure
you comply with the relevant national regulations.
→ When working with pathogenic microorganisms belonging to a higher risk group,
more than one aerosol-tight bioseal must be provided for. ?(Bioseals are a
component of biosafety systems which are however not capable by themselves of
ensuring the protection of people and the environment when pathogenic
microorganisms are being handled.)
Caution! Damage to device by spilling liquids in the rotor or rotor chamber
1. Switch the device off.
2. Disconnect the device from the power supply.
3. Have careful professional cleaning of the device carried out. The instructions
about cleaning and disinfection included in the operating manual should be
observed here.
4. If a different cleaning and disinfection method is to be used, check with Eppendorf
that the intended method will not harm the device.
